This blog would not be here if either one of the conditions applied:
1. +General Motors exercised its right to corporate integrity and truth in marketing and advertisign.
2. IQ score exceeding single digit was the condition applicable to the majority of Corvette buyers.
Considering that this blog continues its existence, the obvious conclusion is that neither of the conditions listed above applies, while the fun (at Corvette owners expense) continues...
As already mentioned in the past, +General Motors , and specifically its "void my factory warranty while I pay you" GMPP outfit made an appearance at the latest SEMA show.
GMPP is a very clever outfit, right out of the old snake oil sales days, offering highly questionable UPGRAYEDDS aimed at correcting problems that continue to plague the latest generation of Corvette, especially where track performance is involved. Since the outfit is not part of the official factory Corvette sales operations, it is not held by the same standards as the car itself, including not just actual improvement verification but negative or counterproductive impacts resulting from GMPP part being installed on the newest Corvettes. Cleverly enough, GM indemnifies itself from any product liability by voiding factory warranty on the car altogether.
The number of not just shady but outright fraudulent upgrades from GMPP is rather large, including engine cooling, suspension, braking and aerodynamic parts. While some of the parts struggle to correct design and engineering flaws that should not exist on not just track oriented by street cars, others are nothing short of insulting the owners and making fraudulent claims, exploiting Corvette owners gullibility and outright stupidity.
Here is a GMPP offering that proves that last assertion very well: so called Corvette C7 Z06 "style" rear spoiler, aka BARN DOOR.
The marketing description of this part, which in reality is nothing else but the standard C7 Z06 level 1 rear spoiler clearly states that the part is not adding any benefit to the base C7 Stingray, as a matter of fact, the description makes it clear that C7 owner will not lose any of the performance characteristics of their base car. How is this possible, considering this is the same spoiler that GM advertises on the flagship as the part of the integrated aerodynamic package supposedly responsible for Z06 superiority? Nobody knows but certainly, a very puzzling statement.
However, as much as puzzling the first part may be, it is nothing compared to the second part, implying that the spoiler is aimed directly at the waxer crowd, since it supposedly improves APPEARANCE of their fine cars.
If any of the readers find this offering and its marketing puzzling, they are not alone, this blog is as puzzled, not just at the insult dished out at the base car owners and their waxer stereotype but at Z06 buyers as well. How can GM possibly market the same part on the aerodynamically similar cars, making two opposite claims?
The barn door in its level 1 form may not be overly effective (and this is not a bad thing actually) but to flatly deny any effect is nothing short of a lie. Ironically enough, Juechter and his team are beyond pathetic with this looks only part of the barn door. If the bullshit "track concept" Stingray was indeed aimed at performance, there would be an adjustable wing offered, due to the fact that the Z06 spoiler is nothing else but a permanently extended AIR BRAKE (a very effective air brake in level 3) and the base Stingray falls short on the horsepower the new flagship occasionally happens to have...
Those who understand what the point of this article is, are encouraged to get even a bigger chuckle than they would get already, should they encounter an aging and velour "sweat" suit clad owner of a Stingray carrying this contraption on its rear.

$750 dollars are you just plain f-ing stupid. Wait for the Z06's to blow up and hit the junkyard and get a barn door for around 50 bucks. Duh
ReplyDeleteThis price covers stage 1 only, the real barn door addition, including that stupid center plexi piece are extra. The rear of Z06 is wider so serious doubts about visual appeal on top of GM stating this piece of crap does not do anything.
