Entering its third production year, 2017 Corvette C7 Z06 offers absolutely no improvements to its flawed design- THE HEAT IS ON!!!

When +General Motors newest flagship Corvette C7 Z06 was first introduced to the unsuspecting public, its chief "engineer" +Tadge Juechter heralded his creation as a true marvel, both technologically and financially, allegedly offering the best and most track capable Corvette ever, rather arrogantly hinting at the outline of the Nurburgring road track in the background while gratifying and padding himself on the back.

However, the initial euphoria did not last very long, in fact, it ended rather abruptly right after car's introduction, yielding nothing short of humiliation and embarrassment and tainting the newest flagship's reputation permanently.

As the time progressed, it became brutally evident that the newest flagship was not exactly what the GM marketing department and its already infamous creator wanted the gullible public to believe it was.  Due to its absolute lack of cooling abilities under conditions dreamed up by the GM marketers, the flagship show its true nature: cheaply designed, using off the corporate shelves technologies and parts and even cheaper executed, with non existent quality control the newest flagship managed to traumatized numerous buyers who chose to rely on corporate advertisements instead of science and even a trace of common sense.

The problems with the new flagship became evident in its very first year of production: flawed aerodynamics, lack of engine compartment air circulation, undersized heat pump pretending to be a supercharger, self re-adjusting suspension geometry, problem causing throw back to the 80's called AFM, overheating automatic transmission, exploding differentials, and on and on and on and on.

To make the matters worse, the car proved to be a complete failure in the place where it was supposed gain its track worthy credentials, Nurburgring.   After several failed attempts to complete even a single lap, the car finally managed to complete one, with the time rivaling a capable bicyclist, forcing Juechter to withdraw the time after a truly meteoric announcement and resorting to the most lame excuses in history of the automotive world to hide it afterwards.

Even though problems like overheating, heat soak, exploding engines and transmissions had been identified early on and not surprisingly, GM offered no solution to these problems, forcing the buyers to resort to home made half ass solutions that perhaps made them feel somewhat better but accomplished nothing meaningful.

Even though the aftermarket jumped in trying to cash in on the flagship's shortcomings, offering pricey but either irrelevant or outright stupid and counterproductive "solutions" such as "upgraded" radiators and auxiliary supercharger cooling system additions, the cures proved themselves even worse than the corporate engineering disease, voiding warranties and forcing the owners to learn the hard way why things usually are best left alone, with the best solution being reducing the expectations.

In the typical corporate fashion and deserving recognition during the next special olympics, the chief Corvette "engineer" concocted a number of so called "track upgrades" such as additional automatic transmission cooler and additional engine radiator which not only offered no improvements but have been offered as factory voiding track upgrades through an outfit ironically called General Motors Performance Parts.

As the car continued to prove itself as a high performance failure, the advertising attached to it changed, no longer the newest flagship was advertised as the most track capable Corvette ever.  First, the flagship became the MOST CAPABLE CORVETTE EVER only to further downgrade its advertised capabilities to a completely meaningless term CERTIFIED SUPERCAR, suggesting another throwback to the 80's to go along with the AFM.

Now, in its third production year and not surprisingly, there is still not a single meaningful upgrade or change aimed at resolving the original list of problems, rendering the flagship destined to remain the waxers delight (although the hideous plastic additions disgracing the car cannot be waxed) and dragstrip choice (assuming the local dealer is friendly enough to cover subsequent engine, differential, torque tube and transmission replacements).

Ironically enough, the Corvette team has admitted the failure of the flagship and by a few, the latest may be considered an actual solution:  a visual look alike called Grand Sport, offering the same flagship gaudiness while eliminating the temporary power gains (up to one lap and until limp mode manifests itself) offered by the "real Z06".  Although the naive Corvette enthusiasts tend to believe that this latest move is designed to attract more buyers interested in the base Stingray, it really is designed to camouflage the failure of the flagship, related to overheating and heat soak variety of issues.

In the end, as the old saying goes, one cannot polish a turd and the failed C7 Z06 certainly is one, serving as a great testimony to the fact that naive buyers get what they pay for, right down to the ever popular limp mode.

  2. I dont agree with your statemenet "buyers get what they paid for" Most of those buyers paid nearly 100k for that car and for that price you can get a base GTR. Which is a very track capable car. I guess GM should just replace their chief engineer and hurry towards the C8

  4. They posted a lap time, and pulled it down from their website rather quickly, I believe within 24 hours of posting it.
