Corvette C7 Z06 LS7 versus Corvette C7 Stingray LT1 427 "Stroker"

As already stated in here, the emissions problems with LS7 adoption to the newest generation of +General Motors Corvette is nothing short of another marketing bullshit cooked up by +Tadge Juechter and his corporate leash holders, bending on stuffing on as much pick up truck fleet oriented off the shelf corporate technology as possible, with no regards to the outcome whatsoever.

However, there is considerably more to it and more reasons why true Corvette enthusiasts should be disillusioned with the turn the latest Corvette took, certainly not for the better.

The last true Z06 Corvette use an enlarged version of LS series small block, taken from its 6 liter stock size all the way to 7 liter displacement.  A free revving (all the way to its 7000 RPM limiter) light weight and quite durable all aluminum motor would be the pinnacle of push rod technologies, had it not been for even better Chrysler 8.4 l V10 monster but this is not relevant here.

One can easily argue that among the engines used by Corvette, it was the best and most impressive one, even more so than the LS9 engine, especially at almost haf of the cost of LT9.  Outside of a problem with the problematic valvetrain (never corrected by GM but easily remedied by the aftermarket), the LS9 was righ down impressive.

Unfortunately, due to corporate politics, this engine was not allowed to be used in the latest generation of Corvette and instead, substituted with a cheap knock off of the previous LT9, plus DI, half ass VVT and AFM.

The disaster that followed this idiotic decision is of monumental proportions and still growing, with douchebag Juechter and his leash holders predictably ignoring the problems.

Not surprisingly, aftermarket is there to cash in on the misery of the stupid buyers and GM's refusal to do anything.  A place called Katech came up with an alleged alternative to the supercharged LT4 turd in a form of a emissions illegal 427 "stroker" that supposedly give the owners of the failed flagship a valid option to race these tracks on the car.

Of course, there is considerably more that would have to be done to make this piece of shit a real track worthy car but just from the engine angle of this matter, the Katech attempt shows how truly failed the seventh generation of Corvette, something that should be blamed directly on Juechter.

This Katech advertises its 427 LT1 based engine as the "most powerful normally aspirated LT1 engine in the world",at 703 hp.  The engine loses its AFM hardware along with that half assed VVT but retains the DI system.  Impressive?  Actually not really, especially considering the fact this 30 grand turd retains that DI which actually hampers the performance while still voiding any emission certification possibilities.  Come to think about it, this is not any different than the "most capable Corvette ever" bullshit coming from Juechter.

And here is something from the not so distant past... EMISSIONS LEGAL LS7 cranking out 730 hp and revving up to 9k, unlike the Katech turd that somehow fails to deliver motivation to upshift past 5k and mysteriously ends its rev band at less than 6600 RPM?  Could it be due to that idiotic DI?  Hmmm

Of course this really impressive LS7 was done in LOL 2009.  Even though this was done in Europe and under european emission laws, the limits under Tier 5 were more stringent than their US counterparts, not to mention the current Tier 6 has not changed these Tier 5 limits as applied to gasoline fueled engines.

  1. ther problem is let's face it..the ZO6 has an insane compression ratio for a SCed engine. CR generates tons of heat as it is. 10:1 on a SCed engine is crazy. DI or not. I suspect that we'll probably be seeing bigger blower, and lower CR C7Zs in the future. (Something more manageable like 9.5 to 1 probably) Lugging around all that drag induced by downforce also isn't helping things.

So really the problem is five fold, namely coming back to 1 an inadequate radiator. Single row rads, should Never Ever be put in ANY serious performance car. Especially since double rows can be had for under a grand....Retail.
Two, weeny charger that's spinning a ton of rpms (which means frankly...it beats the living **** out of the air which generates more heat than a bigger blower, and Roots SCs suck *** anyway, especially when it comes to heat generation...and nothing can ever be done to bring it anywhere close to what a centri setup can manage heat wise), and three, an insane CR for a boosted engine.
Three... the engine has to work harder, and CAN work harder for longer with the downforce. You can be on the throttle longer, with more downforce..on the otherside though..it also produces more drag.
Four, ....it has a grill insert with tons of bars in the way instead of a big larger mesh on grillwork. There's no way in hell the stock grill is a good idea on a ZO6. There's too many obstructions there.

Fix the rad, chop up the grill, and you're pretty much good to go.
