There is one big accolade 2015 Corvette C7 Z06 deserves, for showing the maximum potential of the RWD front engine Corvette platform.
Without seeing the bottom, it is rather difficult to figure out where the top may be and this is where the newest flagship becomes so invaluable. It is unlikely that this is what the +General Motors team led by +Tadge Juechter had in mind but this is exactly what happened. Maybe this was a trap set up by Dave Hill as a parting gift upon his retirement? Who knows and who cares, what matters is the newest flagship's inability to outrank the last "king of the hill", Corvette C6 ZR1.
No matter how much Tadge or any of the followers twist the reality, it is impossible to ignore the fact that ALL AROUND, the last ZR1 outperforms the new Z06 and by a big margin.
Since the newest Corvette Z06 is marketed as the most track capable and the fastest Corvette ever (literally lifted off GM marketing materials and Tadge Juechter's statements), it would seem reasonable for this car to shine on Nurburgring track and on the drag strip.
The inability of Z06 to perform at Nurburgring has been beaten to death already (still fun to point it out though) but how about the quarter mile runs? This is actually where the newest flagship really comes out as a complete failure and great reminder that the best front engine Corvette has already been made-back in 2009.
As it stands, the best that the only currently available manual transmission version of Z06 can muster is 10.9 at 127 mph which ironically enough, is exactly what the four door Dodge Charger Hellcat shod with drag radials can do- for about 40 percent less!!!)
Now, going down the list of the fastest ZR1 quarter mile results...
1~~~~ 10.664 132.92 1.68
2~~~~ 10.740 133.21 1.74
3~~~~ 10.794 132.21 1.80
4~~~~ 10.851 129.89 1.70
5~~~~ 10.950 131.61 1.83
If this is not indicative of the new flagship failure to outrank the king of the hill, then what is? Again, the only accomplishment of the newest Z06 is that the best front engine Corvette was made SIX YEARS AGO.
Peter,i may be mistaken, but I read the 8spd automatic,is the C7-ZO6 that ran 10.9.The recent Car&Driver test was only able to get 11.1 seconds at 127mph.with the automatic ZO6,and 11.5 with the 7spd.manual.Lethal Performance out of Texas was able to run 10.9 at 133mph.with a stock 09 ZR1,stock PS2 run flats.SA.
ReplyDeleteFirst deliveries of A8 took place this weekend, may take a while for results to show up. If I recall, there was supposedly a pre production A8 tested a while ago that did 10.95@127
DeleteYou should compare a 2013 GT500, hellcat, and z06, in an acceleration test. 0-60,1/4mile,0-150, and top speed, to see, just how pathetic the z06 is.
DeleteI think that subject has been brought up a few times already, LOL, especially considering the current GT500 Super Snake.
