2016 Chevrolet Camaro advertisements pointing to 2015 Corvette C7 Z06 flaws?

One would think that a large automaker like +General Motors would be consistent in their marketing strategy if not across its entire line up, then at least among vehicles within the same segment.  Apparently, this is not the case at all and although most likely unintended, marketing claims made to promote one GM car end up reflecting quite negatively on another car made by GM.

In this case, the advertisements involve the upcoming 2016 Chevrolet Camaro and like it or not, make the newest generation of Corvette, especially the flagship Z06 look like even bigger failure.

One may argue the point that Camaro and Corvette reside in different segment of the automotive market and thus, they do not compete with each other and should not be compared but it really is not so... Both cars represent the GM performance offerings, supposedly oriented at performance enthusiasts and designed with performance as the main and foremost objective.  The relationship between Camaro and Corvette is not difficult to observe, given the latest Z28 heavily scavenging from the Corvette performance warehouse, using the LS7 engine.

Here is a partial quotation from the Camaro engineering team, bragging about the weigh loss beneftis the designers and engineers managed to pull off while creating the upcoming Camaro.

“We kept the cornering confidence and control that make the Gen 5 Camaro 1LE so fun to drive, and added a greater sense of agility,” explained chief Camaro engineer Al Oppenheiser. “The new Camaro brakes harder, flicks into corners more quickly, and drives out of the corner faster. We expect it will set the benchmark in the segment and give many sports cars a challenge.”

Clearly, the designers of Camaro associate the improvements mentioned above with the weight savings, going even as far as claiming to create a BENCHMARK challenging MANY SPORTS CARS.

Now, anyone thinking logically could assume that if these benefits come from the weight loss, an opposite will take place when a car gains weight.  Considering the weight gains of the base Stingray and especially Z06 how exactly should these porkers be perceived, with regards to agility, braking and handling?  As a matter of fact, +Tadge Juechter stated very clearly that the weight gain was NECESSARY to improve the car.  Is Oppenheiser lying or is Juechter full of shit and being made to look like even more of a jackass, courtesy of Camaro team?

Diclaimer: this is strictly a rhetorical question, with only most devoted Corvette nut huggers attempting to answer this question or argue the point.

    1. I would not get hung up on the credibility of Camaro claims, it is actually irrelevant in this case. The part that matters and makes this thing funny is the fact that Camaro guys market weight loss as the means of improvement while Corvette gets heavier by the same or greater amount. In a nutshell, Camaro guys make lookk GM's own Juechter look like a complete idiot.
