With all the claims made by different divisions of +General Motors regarding "track capable" cars, it is not easy to separate the truth from the bullshit, this is fact as already well demonstrated by the epic failure of the newest Corvette flagship, Z06.
As it stands, there are apparently FOUR TRACK ORIENTED CARS available from GM in USA.
Two of these cars are C7 Corvettes, Stingray Z51 and Z06 and the other two are the Camaro Z28 and apparently, the 2016 Cadillac CTS V, equipped with the 3.6 V6 force fed using two turbochargers.
As with everything else that comes from GM, as already demonstrated by +Tadge Juechter naseauting the general public with his claims of creating the most track capable Corvette evah, the proof is in the kool aid flavored pudding but.... the 2016 ATS V already outguns the Z51 Stingray, producing pretty impressive 464 hp from its relatively small displacement.
According to the Cadillac engineers, the new ATS V drivetrain was designed with the track duty as its main objective and purpose, truly, a very unorthodox behavior from the brand that typically reeks of mothballs and sales failures (ELR must be the latest one since CT6 is not out yet).
As with the last effort, Cadillac CTS V, the newest high performance effort coming from Cadillac is aimed at BMW, M3 specifically. The previous effort was a failure, mainly due to the poor choice of engine, a supercharged V8 shared with the Camaro ZL1. The 1.9 Roots supercharger would routinely fail, due to its heat generating undersized nature, to the point w, here GM had no choice but to extend warranty on it.
The newest effort is different though, twin turbochargers replaced the obsolete supercharger, the cooling system, transmission, oil cooler and the intercooler look very well thought out and both sized and placed well, certainly, a refreshing change from the C7 Corvette failed attempts.
The initial performance figures with 0-60 in 3.8 and top speed of 185+ mph are on par with the Corvette C7 Z51 and certainly, there is potential for SUSTAINABLE track performance.
There is a big irony here as well: this is the powertrain the latest Corvette should have, along with a fortified version of LS7 but somehow, it is the Cadillac that moves forward, not the Corvette. Of course there is another irony here, with the LT1 turd firmly belonging in the upcoming CT6 that somehow will be stuck using the normally aspirated of the V6 that is being turbocharged in the ATS V... Go figure, apparently SNAFU is the GM trademark.
Realistically, Cadillac ATS V cannot compete with the newest M3 because of course, just like Corvette, it is stuck with the heat prone 8 speed slush box instead of a long overdue DTC but certainly, this is not a surprise...

Bottom line,it's still a Rattlelac from Garbage Motors
