This blog had pointed out long time ago that as long as the same crappy +General Motors dealers and their customer service and repair facilities and personnel will be left in place to handle post purchase needs of the buyers, it will not really matter how good the latest generation of Corvette may be (and it is not), it will never sway buyers of not even exotics but even more common and pedestrian Porsche, BMW, Jaguar, Audi, etc. car buyers the GM way.
The part that nobody in GM, including Mary Barra and +Tadge Juechter can even partially grasp is that the purchase of a car is not just the car itself, it is also the quality of the service and treatment of the customers that follows the purchase. Unfortunately, in spite of the NEW GM bullshit, GM dealers are still the same shitty dealers, manned by barely reading High School Harrys giving as much shit about top of the line Corvette as they give about a piece of shit Sonic. In other words, and fittingly matching the quality of the newest Corvettes, finding a competent and courteous dealer suitable to service a six figure Chevy is a crapshoot at best. Unfortunately, this shitty treatment of customers is not just limited to the dealers, it extends all the way up the corporate ladder, with barely English speaking and local minimum wage collecting "representatives" being an integral part of Corvette purchase.
Majority of the GM car buyers learn very quickly how shitty GM dealer and corporate support really is, not only turning simple service or warranty related visits into true long term nightmares but leaving a permanent vomit like aftertaste that at least for the more intelligent buyers, makes their GM experience the first and last one.
Certainly, experiences like this one can make anyone not just walk away but literally run away from GM and its post purchase service.
Long time ago, the douchebag in charge of Corvette buyers assured them that the dealer certification program would eliminate problems with their precious acquisition both during purchase and then during ownership of the car. As with everything else that comes out of Juechter's mouth, this assurance turned very quickly into another bullshit and unfullfilled pipe dream. Until this day, a simple service such as OIL CHANGE is a game of chance for the C7 owners, with majority of dealerships lacking anyone capable of figuring out the proper fill up level for so called dry sump equipped versions of C7. Of course, this should not be a big surprise since even during the assembly process, the UAW crew in Bowling Green plant routinely overfills the cars with engine oil causing quite a bit of grief for the owners who end up with oil splattered all over the engine compartments and their garage floors and driveways.
To make matters even worse and as THE RULE a simple activity such as LIFTING THE CAR is routinely botched, resulting in rather extensive and completely preventable damage to the car, with the owner experiencing a coronary while everyone at the dealership not giving a flying fuck about the car and its horrified owner.
In this case, GM showed its true colors not just by damaging the new car due to the "certified service" personnel stupidity and ignorance. The part following this fuck up is considerably worse and considerably more disturbing: without notifying the owner, the dealership proceeded to fix the car as supposedly a gesture of GOOD WILL, denying the owner to explore any recourses that may be available, including appraising the damage and then finding a competent body shop or suing the living daylights off dealer's ass.
Conveniently enough, the bullshit customer complaint process GM claims it has was eliminated through this pathetic dealer repair since the dealer demonstrated a "good faith" by attempting to repair its own fuck up. As a result, the owner of this car is completely fucked, having so called DUE PROCESS eliminated, with GM applauding the truly despicable dealer behavior.
Although in this case, the damage is somewhat limited, what would happened if the dealer crashed the car or dropped it from the lift? Would the dealer that already demonstrated its incompetence and absolute lack of customer car proceeded directly to attempting unauthorized repairs, with GM again applauding the bullshit good faith? Without any doubt, this is exactly what would happen.
Like with any other car, body and paint repairs can affect the resale of the car in the future, potentially screwing the owner of thousands of dollars that would be deducted for non original paint and this optimistically assuming the repairs would be top notch and paint matched perfectly. Certainly, a great reason not to just walk away from Corvette purchase but impersonate Usain Bolt while parting ways with GM.
