If anyone was in doubt regarding the corporate kit car nature of +General Motors alleged sports car Corvette C7 and missed the fact that the technological marvel (at least according to +Tadge Juechter and his crew) is already widely used in GM's SUV's and fleet pick up trucks, any remaining illusion has been just removed with the introduction of the newest rehash of the Chevrolet Camaro.
Typically, a kit car is defined as a custom body and chassis or custom body over a stock chassis, with the drivetrain of choice, put together by either a (hopefully) qualified assembly crew or home garage bound enthusiast.
Considering the geriatric nature of the typical Corvette owners, the task of assembling the Corvette kit car has been delegated to the fine UAW crew at Bowling Green plant for better or worse but still... the newest plastic fantastic is nothing short of a glorified kit car, with plenty of design faults and not very well thought out components.
Although as already mentioned, the power plant is already widely utilized in variety of GM vehicles, what makes the newest Camaro special is the fact that unlike with the other vehicles and past Camaros, this time around, the claimed power output remains unchanged, removing the claim of the most powerful normally aspirated vehicle from the newest generation of Corvette.
The reason? The newest Ford Mustang, a direct competitor to the porker Camaro (Hemi powered Chrysler/Dodge Challenger still retains its power advantage over both Camaro and Mustang) and GM's desire to outpower it.
Considering the Chrysler 6.4l Hemi motor and its 485 hp output, the attempt by the GM geniuses is one big failure, especially considering the price Corvette numbnuts must pay now: no horsepower advantage over Camaro bragging rights!!!
Are the bragging rights important to Corvette numbnuts? Of course they are!!! Anyone putting Corvette to constructive high performance use is an exception, not a rule and the possibility of a Camaro owner placing a 455 hp plaque on his or hers Camaro next to the Corvette with the plaque displaying the same number, at the next Shine and Show event must already disturb quite a few of the kool aid drinking AARP members.
The irony of this situation? This pathetic attempt is one big failure for GM: the LT1 is still outpowered by the Hemi and it is still outpowered by the FPC DOHC motor in the newest Mustang GT350R while both Camaro and Corvette can offer nothing else.
To further compound this failure, Chrysler was considerably smarter while fighting the pony car horsepower wars: it offers a considerably higher normally aspirated output in its top of the line car, Dodge Viper while GM has nothing to counter this part since the only other higher output engine is the supercharged hero lap LT4 turd and this one is already humiliated not just by Chrysler's Hellcat monster but even by the PREVIOUS GENERATION's of Mustang, GT500 engine.
One bright spot for Corvette buyers: they should have no issues finding a spare LT1 turd or transmission at the nearest GM scrap yard in the very near future-and considering the continuous problems and failures surrounding the Stingray drivetrain failures, they are going to need it.
well i guess some motors will blow up in the new CRAPMARO too.junk being put in junk.
ReplyDeleteIt is the most powerful push rod motor that is not a Hemi, and not made by the Germans.
ReplyDeleteWell no, it is not. This title belongs to Viper engine, not to mention the LS7...
