By all accounts, the "faster than Porsche PDK" 8-speed 8l90 slush box was bound to be another failure, one of so many plaguing the latest +General Motors Corvette generation.
As this blog pointed out in the past, the smaller than required torque converter was decreased in diameter even more with the newest slush box, forcing it to spin even faster. At the same time, the physical housing size was decreased while forcing the new slush box to accommodate two more gears while decreasing its fluid holding capacity.
When combined with the ineffective rear mounted cooler and location forcing it to adsorb exhaust system temperatures from the exhaust located right above it, this idiotic configuration became nothing short of recipe for disaster.
Thus, it comes as no surprise that automatic transmission overheating is a rule for anyone dumb enough to take the newest Corvette on the track and it is not at higher summer temperatures only, the new slush box will overheat on the track after just a few minutes of driving at even 60 degrees ambient temperature.
The overheating automatic transmission problem is very well documented and +Tadge Juechter has been aware of this problem since 2013 since the six speed slush box had the same problem.
In an attempt to live up to being a douchebag, Juechter never admitted to the failure, since he never does but... long and behold, the 2016 Z51 auto Stingray includes the same front mounted idiotic transmission cooler like its more expensive derivative, the Nurburgring concquering Z06 flagship.
However, what about the 2015 Stingrays and especially those with the Z51 "track" option? Apparently the tools who bought the first year of 8 speed auto turd and then paid extra for the track option are totally fucked, with no retrofit offerred by GM whatsoever.
Will any of these numbnuts sue GM for failure to deliver on the "track" option? This part is doubtful due to Corvette buyers absolute lack of brains and testicles but nevertheless, anyone dumb enough to consider buying this Stingray POS used should keep this part in mind...
