Bad paint is one of the trademark of the newest +General Motors Corvette generation. The orange peel, contamination, runs and blotchiness are facts of life for huge number of unsuspecting buyers and one could write a book about this part of Corvette C7. Although this situation is already pretty bad, apparently it can get even worse.
How is this possible? As bad as shoddy paint quality is, it is still better than not having any paint at all and this is exactly what happens to at least a few lucky Corvette buyers so far, with the paint literally falling off their cars. Paint falling off Corvettes is not a reoccuring problem like with blotchy metallics or paint runs. Certainly, not something +Tadge Juechter anticipated as a distinguishing mark but nevertheless, the seventh generation of Corvette has the dubious honor of paint literally falling off the car.
By all accounts, especially on urethane bumpers, the paint should never flake off since adhesion promoter should be used to avoid this part but somehow there is a problem here. Is it a lack of surface preparation? Lack of paint additives or just a simple case of shitty paint job all around? No matter what the cause may be, this is what happens and on a 60k and more cars, definitely unacceptable.
And people call the Viper overpriced. Prefix spends 140-160 man hours to get the Adrenaline Red looking like it does on my car. Hand painted, wet sanded by hand, etc. etc. until it is perfect. It is an absolutely phenomenal paint job, and I can guaranfucking tee you that it won't be flaking off the car.........ever. It's all about quality, not quantity. How much time did Tadge and his team of brainless robots spend? 2 hours. What a joke.
