Beligerantly oblivious to the laws of physics, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics and completely lacking common sense, proud owners of the latest +General Motors flagship, Corvette C7 Z06 continue their affair with a slew of aftermarket power brokers tempting them with one thing the newest flagship needs the least, more power.
Even a fully retarded person should understand that adding more power to the car that cannot handle stock power levels without overheating but apparently this is not the case with the schmucks owning this latest flagship.
In addition to the previously mentioned three offerings from Hennessey, Lingenfelter and Callaway, there is another one, from a place called Katech. Now, Katech prouds itself on offering race tried solutions and performance enhancements and they actuall do offer a normally aspirated LS7 style engine swap for C7 Z06 but one cannot wonder what on Earth would posses these guys to offer another bullshit power UPGRAYEDD when car already overheats at stock power level?
So what does this package offer?
Stage 2 – 750hp/800tq (for the first five minutes?)
Halltech Stinger RZ air intake system
Chassis dyno baseline
Serialized plaque
Katech CNC ported throttle body
Katech CNC ported heads
Katech AFM delete valley cover
GM High Speed lifters
Supercharger pulley
ATI damper/supercharger drive pulley
ARP head studs
170 degree thermostat
Installation and chassis dyno tuning
$6,042 plus requirement for aftermarket headers installed PRIOR to the package installation to validate the claimed horsepower gain (LMAO and WTF?)
Katech valve covers are optional.
Also, offered at no charge are:
Factory powertrain warranty void
Emissions certification void
Aftermarket headers warranty void
As an extra bonus, there is of course extra heat and reduced effective RPM limit.
So what is driving Katech to peddle this power package to the Corvette owners? Cannot be compassion or sincerity, thus, it has to be greed.
Right off the bat, the big red flag is of course absolutely no attempt to improve the shitty engine cooling situation, absolutely nothing, not even optional (unlike the valve covers, LMAO). But there is more to it, more red flags: high flow heads and air intake indicate more air and leaner than stock mixture while the supercharger pulley clearly indicates underdrive forcing the turdy blower to work extra hard and produce more boost at lower RPMs.
Considering the super low thermal effciency of the little blower, this is a lot extra heat and at considerably lower RPMs than stock. In other words, this is asking for considerably bigger trouble than with the stock set up since the aftermarket tunning will without any doubt lean out the mixture overall but also raise the knock limits, preventing timing retardation.
Since nothing beats self incrimination, the dyno printout demonstrates very well what the consequences of this UPGRAYEDD will be: while the factory blower in stock set up does not max out until about 6000 RPMs, the Katech set up maxes it out 1000 RPMS SOONER!!! This part is the most revealing part of this offering, clearly demonstrating the limitations of the factory blower as well as total irresponsibility of the aftermarket supplier. Will the buyers understand the consequences? How about the automatic transmission applications? Is there a complimentary transmission software rewrite to account for the necessary lower shifting points? Does not seem to be the case, at least not from the list of the items included.
Do the aftermarket tuners like Katech understand the consequences of the extra heat? If they do, they certainly do not show it, leaving the customers to learn the hard way.
I do find it funny that they call them"high speed lifters". It is a pushrod motor, how high speed can it get before the valves start floating? The "factory" Ford GT350R motor turns over 8,000 rpms. Or is this valve float, GM's new variable valve timing system?
ReplyDeleteYes it is very funny actually since these are the GM Cadillac "racing" overpriced junk that is actually beyond pointless in this crappy upgrade that taps out the power at 5k RPM. What is even funnier is the fact that these things cost as much as three times what LS7 lifters cost and LS7 revs up higher. Just another way to rip undeducated customers: sell them overpriced and noisy junk that serves no purpose whatsoever.
