2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 humiliates Corvette C7 Stingray Z51 in Car and Driver comparison

As expected, the journalistic honeymoon with +General Motors Corvette C7 Stingray and Z06 is long over... To +Tadge Juechter 's credit, this time, the latest Corvette actually managed to finish the test, without blowing its motor and just generally crap out and without becoming another DNF Corvette.  Obviously, this is progress, LOL.

However, the latest Corvette, in its third year of production, failed to sway the journalists from Car and Driver to declare it an overall winner while competing against the latest Ford Mustang, 2016 Shelby GT350.

Not surprisingly, the innovations the Shelby brings to the market and overall value won the Car and Driver writers over.  The first ever flat plane crankshaft, high revving DOHC powerplant available in mass production and low cost car is nothing to sneeze at, for sure.  Ironically enough and objectively enough, the relatively high priced Shelby is the genuine bargain, offering a powerplant found typically in cars like Ferrari, not a lowly and pick up truck based pushrot uhm pushrod V8 found in the Corvette.  Of course, unlike the newest Corvettes, the Shelby runs full-time on all eights instead of the four cylinder mode that delights the geriatric Corvette C7 buyers so much...

Similarly to Ferrari buyers, the Car and Driver crew did not go for the quicker and faster car, just the one that is more competent around the track, without switching to the limp mode and burdened with the possibility of blowing up the motor on the account of a defective oil filter (according to Juechter at least).  Again, without another surprise, the manual transmission in the Shelby apparently appealed more to the magazine testers, refusing to pop out of the gear or refusing to engage the intended gear like TR6070 likes to do quite often...

This blog pointed out in the past, quite a while ago, the new Shelby is very innovative and Ford designers considerably more competent than their GM counterparts.   Maybe Car and Driver writers happened to read this blog?  Hmmm...

The morale of this Corvette humiliation?  The Stingray drivers are advised not to roll race the newest Shelby...
