Corvette C7 Z06 TVS1740 intercooler UPGRAYEDD- another clueless aftermarket solution to irrelevant problem

The ability to distinguish between cause and effect is the single most important quality necessary to solve any problem.  Certainly, neither +General Motors nor so called Corvette "aftermarket suppliers" can be accused of possessing such quality, as demonstrated on numerous occasions in this blog.

Thus, it should come as no big surprise that another example of this limited mental capacity has recently appeared.  Predictably, this latest example tackles a problem that is nothing else than unavoidable effect of the cause that should be addressed instead.

The aftermarket company is Katech and the "solution" revolves around nothing else but the TVS1740 and alleged intercooler poor efficiency, along with its obstructive to the engine radiator's location.

Apparently the intended objective is to kill two birds with one stone: decrease engine coolant temperatures and increase supercharger's efficiency by decreasing the ever popular intake air temperature.

To accomplish this objective, Katech proceeded to remove the factory intercooler, mounted in front of the radiator and replace it with two smaller units, mounted in the front area of the bumper, most likely requiring either hacking out two holes or enlarging (hopefully) the current front brake and air intake opening.  At this stage, it is unknown how is Katech attempting to compensate for the most likely decreased front brake cooling ability but this is not relevant to this article.

In the past, this blog made it perfectly clear that no amount of supercharger cooling can compensate for the poor choice of the supercharger itself, rendering any improvements to its cooling system completely useless. To put it plainly, the undersized and fast spinning little supercharger works outside of its optimum efficiency range and performs more like a heat pump than air compressor.

This point was made in the past in light of previous idiotic "solutions" involving an auxiliary expansion tank added, at great expense, to the existing one, in hope of lowering the IAT's but apparently, Corvette enthusiasts and their "power brokers" are immune to logic, common sense and science, pressing on with the idiocy.

Now, the concept of removing obstructions from the air pathway is not without a merit, of course but... it is a matter of priorities here and the profound retarded approach to address the effect, without even looking at the cause.

The fact that the radiator currently used on the +General Motors  "certified supercar" should not be ignored, it is beyond pathetic, lacking the size, design and materials expected from a radiator expected to handle not just extra 200 hp but at least according to +Tadge Juechter , TRACK DUTIES.  Yes, the engine radiator should have been redesigned long time ago but no radiator alone can cure the problems related to the Z06 overheating and high operating temperatures.

Apparently geniuses at Katech either ignore or fail to understand the problem with the overheating engine and subsequent loss of power lies in the engine itself, along with the super shitty engine oil cooling system.  If anything requires attention and improvement, IF the problematic and poorly flowing engine is to be retained, the ENGINE COOLER is the single part that should be addressed.

Subsequently, if there are holes to be hacked out, these holes should provide air flowing to AIR TO OIL engine cooler, eliminating the current oil to coolant HEAT EXCHANGER, allowing the engine oil to take advantage of heat exchange based on the ambient to engine oil temperature differential, like real track capable cars employ.

To top off this exercise in futility, the supercharger cooling system is as cumbersome as it may get, it is actually TWO SEPARATE SYSTEMS, using dedicated tanks and pumps, making this proposal even more idiotic.

This blog shall await a single semi intelligent aftermarket company to understand the real problems plaguing the piece of shit called C7 Z06, especially if a completely redesigned front bumper is proposed, along with revised radiator that incorporates transmission cooler and allows for air to oil cooler, along with more suitable and larger supercharger which ironically enough would render any upgrades to its cooling system unnecessary, at least beyond the point of relocating the supercharger to the other hole in the front bumper hacked out to match the first one.

Strangely enough, Chrysler engineers appear to be light years ahead of Juechter, as well demonstrated by the Hellcat engine and supercharger cooling designs.

In the meantime, the festival of Corvette stupidity shall continue as scheduled by both, GM and aftermarket.
