As +General Motors continues to feed the buyers of the latest generation of Corvette with the promises of big improvements to the infamous by now paint and body panel fitment problems, come the new Bowling Green Assembly Plant paint facility, none of this really matters to the Corvette sheep still willing to take their chances, plunking down serious chunk of money on cars that make the Russian chop shops look like McLaren assembly plant.
Considering this is the FOURTH year of production and third year of +Tadge Juechter 's brain child, the certified supercar C7 Z06, what possible excuse could there be for the body panels to interfere with each other and in effect, cause the paint to peel off in sheets, like Home Depot latex paint, applied to a pan coated with Teflon?
As this blog pointed out on many many occasions, the UAW crew at Bowling Green Plant has no idea what worker pride and craftsmanship may mean, absolutely no clue whatsoever. All these hardworking heroes care about is the next break, their retirement plan and well deserved raise. For doing exactly what? Allowing pieces of shit like the one shown in the picture to leave the factory, hoping that the dumb schmuck will not notice until it is all on the dealer to try to make it all good?
Judging from the picture, the paint on the body panels is not even close to being cured before the car is assembled. To further compound the problem, it is obvious that neither the assembly staff or the panels themselves are up to any standard of decency. "Making the panels fit" by literally forcing them in place and then allowing them to interact with each other is as shitty as assembly process can get. Had it been a quality assembly plant, the panels would be checked for fitment PRIOR to painting them, to avoid exactly what the picture shows.
As before and as with anything else +Tadge Juechter says, the new assembly plant will not offer any changes resulting in improvement to the Corvette fit and finish and paint quality, all it will do (assuming no other cars will be handled there) is to increase the production rates, allowing more of these embarrassment to be dumped on the dealers. On the bright side, the geriatric buyers should figure out that equipping themselves with effective visual aides (a plug in for Bausch and Lomb?) may be the smart thing to do, although using these aides effectively may result in no sale.
Of course, if this is a problem on a $100k car, how much worse will it get should the GM be stupid enough to venture out into mid-engine field and attempt to pass turds like this one for twice the price?
Tadge Juechter would be proud of this, just like he is about the Z06 engine cooling and eight speed automatic.
