Automatic transmission overheating problem as valid for 2015 Corvette C7 Stingray and Z06 8 speed as they are for 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray

No matter how much lipstick will +Tadge Juechter slap on the superiority of the upcoming 8 speed  8l90 transmission, the problems that can easily be noticed on the current automatic Stingrays have a great chance to continue and most likely get worse.

The problems with the current 6 speed transmission-heat build up due to inadequate cooling features, especially on convertible models.  Heat build up once again, this time due to smaller diameter torque converter (the price for smaller moment of inertia is the converter has to spin faster) and again, more heat build up due to increased stall speed (gotta keep those marketing 0-60 and ET figures alive, no matter how much less the transmission will last).

In addition to the heat build up, both upshifts and downshifts are noticeable and quite rough-this part is a given since most of the transmission internals are a direct carry over from the C6 generation slush box.

So how much improvement can the new 8 speed be?  Based on the information released by +General Motors , there is actually very small difference in the transmission design outside of the measures taken to make the transmission more compact, to accommodate the extra two gears, in other words, things are considerably more crammed than they were before, including reverse gear sharing shaft with forward gear.  BTW, the same small torque converter from the current transmission has been used in 8l90.

Since the cooling of the transmission has not changed, it will be even more inadequate than now, with Z06 and especially Z06 convertible being the absolute worst.

So can the new transmission really shift faster?  This is actually more bullshit from Tadge, as soon as transmission fluid warms up, it will slip under stress as much as the current one does, not only unsuitable for Nurburgring but even for a local track during summer months.

The only saving grace for Tadge and his newest turd of transmission?  The aging buyers, too busy waxing their  newest joke to take it to the track.

  1. Dude, how could anyone conceivably have this much anger about a car and Tadge? Did he fire you? How did you get wronged? Did you have a bad experience with a Stingray? I have been a lifelong Porsche owner and just bought a Stingray and all I can say is that it is the most amazing car I have ever owned. Check the news. Until the Stingray has a full ENGINE RECALL like Porsche just did with the GT3, I think they are doing okay.

And, be real. Like any car, it will depreciate like a rock. A Mercedes is any better? A Ferrari? I paid 77k out the door for my Stingray and in 5 years it will be worth half of that or less. But it cost my half the price of a 911 turbo and I have had several friends that had major issues with the 911 turbo.

I am more than willing to come back to you in six months after I have to lemon law the thing and tell you that you were right but for now, they are super hard to get in southern California and one of the best looking cars on the road.
The dealers are actually selling and moving them for 8k over sticker. I paid MSRP because I ordered and waited 8 months.

  2. I was surprised to hear that there are so many transmission problems with Stringrays. It is crucial to have your transmission regularly checked if driving one of these then. Driving on the road wouldn't be safe otherwise. http://www.albertatransmission.ca/en/automatic_transmission_repair.html
