In spite of +General Motors and automotive press raving constantly about the new "world class interior", the reality of the new Corvette situation is that it is a THIRLD WORLD car, both on the outside and inside, as well.
The new seats are a great example of this cheapness in choice of materials, design and execution.
The case in point here: new Corvette emblems at the top of the seatbacks. Unlike the previous generations where the seats were decorated with embroidery, the new Corvette uses cheesy looking plastic emblems, stuck to the surface of leather and closely resembling hood ornaments. Tacky for sure but even more so, wreaking havoc on drivers shirts and sweaters with sharp edges protruding from the seatbacks.
If the shirt is stronger than the emblem, the emblem gives and pieces break off, exposing cheap and fragile plastic core inside of fancy surface coating. Certainly it is considerably cheaper to slap emblems on the surface of leather seats than embroider them but the immediate savings to GM result in a lot of grief to car buyers, when after several encounters with owners clothing, the emblems eventually start breaking apart. When this happens, there is no easy fix, the emblems are not available as replacement parts so replacement of the entire seat back may be necessary and this can cost a lot of money after either GM determines that accidental damage is not covered under factory warranty or the warranty outright expires.
Furthermore, as demonstrated in the picture, the quality of the seats is highly questionable altogether. The seat covers appear to be very undersized, to the point where seams stretch well beyond a norm acceptable for "world class" interiors. Since the strained stitching already shows excessive amount of wear and these cars are still brand new, it is easy to imagine what will happen in a few months, with both stitches and seat material failing due to excessive stretch further accentuated by the hefty weight of the typical Stingray buyers.
Like with exterior of the car, the materials used are super cheap, the design is not precise and ergonomics and practicality are truly lousy. When these problems manifest themselves so early on the new cars, it is very easy to imagine what will happen after few months of car use, it will be a miracle to see these interiors not fall apart.
Just another truly disgraceful manifestation of a cheaply made car usurping to set automotive world on fire-nice try but a complete fail, as usual.,
