This should come as no surprise to anyone but the hardest +General Motors kool aid drinking crowd but after the initial hype is over, the newest Stingray will fade into obscurity and gold chain reputation as all of the generations before it or after. What is really surprising is the fact that this is happening already in the first production year, very quickly actually.
As the initial hype wears off and the retail prices creep up, the sales will wind down and used car lots fill up with used Stingrays-this is the natural order of things and in spite of +Tadge Juechter wishing otherwise, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Interestingly enough, just like with Consumer Reports before, the Stingray failed to earn top ranking and even more interestingly, failed to qualify for a top 10 spot altogether. No, the pricing was not the factor and neither was the 2-seat configuration. Apparently the Stingray in its convertible form is just not as much fun as other cars, including the porker Camaro.
Given more time, the Stingray will slip into complete obscurity, easier to find on the dealer lots than on the streets. Long gone will be not just the days of mark ups but even invoice pricing. How long before this happens? Not that long, in fact, it is happening already. The increasing numbers of rental fleet vehicles is a very good indicator of this situation.
As usual, buyers of the new Stingrays should hang on firmly to their behinds, they may be experiencing a sharp reaming sensation penetrating their behinds shortly...
