Corvette C7 Stingray TR-6070 transmission still grinds 2nd gear like C6 TR-6060 did...

Well, at least this is reassuring, the supposedly completely redesigned 7-speed manual transmission of the C7 still grinds the second gear like its predecessor did.

Here is the strange thing though, based on the previously owned C5 and LS3 C6 cars, neither one of those transmissions ground its second gear.   However, both of my former 2009 Corvettes, LS3 and Z06 ground their second gears, effectively eliminating any smooth and speedy take offs on numerous occasions.  Unlike with the Porsche manual transmissions that literally can be shifted using ONE FINGER and in any gear, the Tremec turds require sheer brute force to execute gear change, with the second gear actually resisting being engaged.

The problem took place during upshifts, with no issues during downshifts but of course, downshift is irrelevant during take offs.  What is even stranger is the fact that Generation 4 Dodge Viper equipped with this transmission has no issue with the 2nd gear.

To make clear, this is not 1 to 4 skip shift issue, it occurs with and without lock out solenoid being engaged.

As expected, any visits to the +General Motors dealer service department will not be fruitful.  As expected, test drives by service technicians never led to anything besides "nothing abnormal has been found, transmission operates within acceptable behavior".

Even though, one of the visits did result, at least in my case, in replacement of supposedly leaky slave and master cylinders (at 16k miles!), the grinding and gear engagement continued until the very last day of ownership of Corvettes.

Fast forward to C7 and surprise, surprise-the same problem seems to plague large numbers of Stingrays equipped with the manual transmission.  Apparently, if one can avoid automatic transmission overheating issues, this is the trade off?

There are a few things that C6 TR-6060 and C7 TR-6070 cars have in common: one is the same lower gear synchros and gears and the other one is the clutch hydraulics.

Apparently both of the problems of the previous manual transmission cars have been directly transferred to the newest generation of Corvette.   So much for the typical +Tadge Juechter all new car design bullshit and improvements.  Also, another reason to avoid this latest generation and come to think about it, all Corvettes period, not only is GM not receptive to complaints but GM will try its hardest to dump the responsibility for higher mileage Stingrays with failed manual transmissions on the owners, after warranty expires.
