This problem has been going on since the fifth generation of Corvette was introduced, plastic fuel tanks cracking and leaking, especially around crossover pipe, rendering fuel gauge worthless and giving owners a pretty good buzz from the fumes accumulating in the car.
Apparently nothing has changed and the newest Corvette uses the same crappy plastic tanks and hot weld joints that still crack like before.
Since there are already reports of dealers servicing this problem, certainly, very little has changed regarding this problem. The fun part here, with the newest Corvette is the problem with the torque tube and transaxle removal that already resulted in several LT1 motors destroyed. Now, there will be even more of these events taking place.
As with the previous generations, the fuel tank leaks and cracks should be easy to spot from underneath of the car, the smell can be just awful if there is a leak.
There is no doubt that should there be an investigation, it will conclude as before that "+General Motors does not feel there is a safety issue", LOL.
Woke up Thanksgiving morning to a puddle of fuel under my2014 c7 Corvette could not enjoy the long weekend
ReplyDeleteMy 2016 C7 is in the shop to fix a fuel leak. Strong smell of gas when car is parked. Dealer has received the parts. I did report this on the NHTSA website.
