With over 2000 2015 Corvette C7 Stingrays canned indefinitely due to lack of not just parts but apparently even an engineering solution (assuming that +General Motors and +Tadge Juechter did not pull another "defective oil filter" stunt, with the buyers), this one should raise quite a bit of confidence and vindication for the buyers who continue to plunk down their monies on what is already shaping up as the biggest Corvette launch failure since 1968:
The problem: GM says the lap belt pretensioner cables may not lock under certain conditions, allowing the seat belts to extend when pulled on rather than lock up. If the seat belts don’t remain locked in the event of a crash, an occupant may not be fastened properly, increasing the chances of injury.
Affected vehicles: 2013 Cadillac ATS sedans and 2013 Buick Encore compact SUVs are affected by this recall.
Number of affected vehicles: GM says about 48,114 vehicles in total are affected, all built between April 23rd, 2012 and May 1st, 2013.
The fix: GM says it will notify owners of the recall soon, at which point they will be able to bring it into a dealer who will replace the front driver’s and passenger’s lap belt pretensioners. Parts are not yet available, but GM will send owners a notification when they become ready.
Now, this is certainly a confidence builder for Corvette buyers and assurance they will be collecting quite a few cobwebs and rodent turds from their cars IF GM fesses up and decides to fix the defective LT1 engines instead of hoping for the owners to invalidate the warranty conditions one way or another.
