In addition to reducing friction in the engine, keeping temperatures down and fuel economy up, there is one other reason why these coatings are used: they are necessary for ACTIVE STOP AND GO technology (there is a lot of extra wear on engines being shut off and restarted frequently, even with no significant oil film loss taking place).
Now, here is the funny part, LT1 engine is already a real turd, failing left and right without this stop and go feature, what will happen when more stress is added to these flawed engines? Did +Tadge Juechter think this one over? Apparently not, LOL.
