This video sums it up, pointing out the major shortcoming of C7 equipped with automatic transmission, regardless if this is six or 8-speed variety. The torque converter, especially undersized one on the Corvette C7 automatics are nothing short of mobile heat generators.
Due to large rotational mass of crankshaft used in LT1 and LT4 engines, letting off the throttle is not even close to instant RPM drop. Since the torque converter locks up only with engine RPMs matching the transmission input shaft RPM, there is a lot of heat being generated that in de facto, renders any consistency needed on the track into another pipe dream.
Thus, +Tadge Juechter and +General Motors sales brochure bring out the shift times of the new 8l90 transmission, they "accidentally" forget to bring up the matter of heat generation that makes any of those figures a one time event, until the transmission cools off sufficiently to turn off the DIC
Will there be any multi lap runs in the automatic Stingrays and Z06? A few laps in a coupe and single lap in a convertible, if that. Once again, the typical waxing and cars and coffee nature of Corvette purchases greatly helps the marketing bullshit although the reality is not difficult to realize, as long as the buyer can set the GM Kool Aid aside for a while. Will the Road and Track test the upcoming Z06 this way? Not if they want to continue to receive donations for GM, LOL.
