When +Tadge Juechter says the newest Corvette breaks away from the old mold of moldy old buyers concerned more with even application of Zaino than actual performance of the car, he is either clueless or plain old full of shit, hoping for a miracle. Well, there are no miracles and if in doubt, there is an easy way to verify the reality.
There is one area where Corvette sets itself apart from all other sports cars (assuming one considers it a sports car at all) and as expected, from true exotics: the activities under the hood (literally) and in the engine bay. Interestingly enough, the owners of the latest generation of Camaro share the same hood liner passion as the buyers if Camaro's twin.
Specifically, the item that sets Corvettes apart from other cars is the hood liner airbrushing "art". To call it art is actually really stretching the boundaries of art, unless someone considers airbrushed murals on vans and low-riders an art. As a matter of fact, a set of fuzzy dice should compliment this activity.
Typically, hood liners are there to create a noise and heat barrier, however, this has never been a case with Corvette owners. As a matter of fact, there is a lot of money being spent on airbrushed hood liners, this has been the reality with C5 and C6 Corvettes mainly (clamshell on C4 Corvette made this activity somewhat difficult).
So have things changed with the seventh Corvette generation? Not at all as a matter of fact, the hood airbrushing business is as strong as ever, proving very well that in spite of Camaroesque disguise, Stingray still appeals to the same buyers, with the same Zaino soaked mentality.
Tadge can preach all he wants but the reality is that nothing has changed, if there are new buyers, they are just replenishing the ranks of the current aging crowds (it is called ATTRITION Tadge, not buyer profile turnaround. )
The upshot is that the airbrushed hood liners are not visible on the street, only at Coffee and Cars events, thus, they innocent bystanders do not have to worry about this hood liner related trauma.
