Of course good ole Tadge forgets little details like absolutely horrible fit and finish of the newest Corvette, warping upon delivery interior trim, self disintegrating seats and variety of mechanical and electronic issues that keep the supposedly happy buyers very familiar with the waiting rooms of their nearest +General Motors dealership facilities, rubbing elbows with the countless owners of Cobalt, Cruze and other GM junk being currently recalled.
Going back to the Porsche inferiority complex common to Tadge and delusionary Stingray buyers, such notion is right down laughable. Why?
Here is one example: comparison of manual transmissions.
On the surface, there is a similarity between these two, they are both 7-speed transmissions. No doubt that proud Stingray buyers make the point (assuming they are educated enough to realize there is Porsche 7-speed transmission, of course) of same driving experience, based on the number of gears being the same.
Well, guess what, they are simply kidding themselves. Where Porsche (ZF made) 7-speed manual transmission is actually a great idea that was executed very well, the GM counterpart is a pointless and right down stupid idea, courtesy of GM cheapness.
Here is a quote from Porsche 911 sales info:
7-speed manual gearbox
Pure, direct, precise. Short shift movements and an optimum transition from one gear to the next. That’s exactly what you would expect of a Porsche manual gearbox.
What you might not have expected is a 7-speed manual gearbox that combines a high level of sporty performance with an equally high level of efficiency and offers extra comfort for longer journeys. It’s an exceptional innovation, and not only in the sports car segment.
The design of this manual gearbox is based in principle on that of Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK). Gears 1 to 6 have a sports ratio and top speed is reached in 6th gear. The additional 7th gear, however, has a long ratio, which reduces torque and helps to reduce fuel consumption. Lower engine revs at fast driving speeds also ensure a high level of comfort on long stretches of road. In addition, a gear indicator in the rev counter reminds you which gear has been selected. The upshift indicator in the instrument cluster helps you actively conserve fuel.
Thanks to the elevated centre console, the gear lever is within easy reach – ideal for sporty gear changes.
Whether you select a sporty or comfortable gear, the way you reach your destination is in your own hands.
Here is the fundamental difference: the gearing in the ZF 7-speed is purely performance oriented, only 7th gear is an overdrive gear and top speed is achieved in the SIXTH gear in 911. The performance part of driving is available to both drivers of manual transmission and auto (DTC) equipped cars because the gearing is IDENTICAL for both, PDK and manual transmissions through the 6th gear.
Now, this is some great thinking on part of Porsche and ZF, the closely spaced gears allow for extracting maximum performance from 911 while allowing for a single cruising freeway gear.
And here is the POS Tremec TR-6070 7-speed manual transmission: THREE OVERDRIVE gears, with the UNDISCLOSED top speed available in FIFTH GEAR, while allowing AARP belonging Stingray owners to choose between TWO cruising gears, apparently to offer a choice in fuel savings for those with decent retirement vs. those on a tight pension? If the four cylinder AFM mode was not insulting enough, there is more of the same bullshit and sports car pretense regarding the newest manual transmission
Oh and unlike PDK based ZF transmission, the Stingray transmission is nothing less than reworked previous 6-speed TR-6060, no matter how much lipstick Juechter and Tremek folks slap on this 7-speed pig. (of course GM cannot duplicate the Porsche here since nobody in GM has a clue what DTC even is!!!). Ah but there is a bonus and a true benefit to the newest Getrag 7-speed: finding the right gear is a lot fun now, the gear spacing is so tight that trying to figure out the gear engaged is a real guessing game. Maybe Juechter can take a trip to the nearest Porsche dealer and try out the new ZF gear box? He and others may get a clue what a manual transmission should shift? Oh and while at the Porsche dealer, why not try the clutch as well? If the previous Corvette generation had a shitty clutch, this one sets a new grabbing standard.
So are the Porsche shoppers swaying toward the Stingray as a valid alternative? Maybe those with serious stock losses but otherwise, NOT A CHANCE!!! The thing about typical Porsche buyers versus Corvette buyers: they are considerably more educated and analytical than the aging Corvette bunch-sad but true.
Due to torque and hp being available at high RPMs, it makes sense to
