Apparently this is not a +General Motors dirty little secret, now it is fully out in the public view, the self destructing LT1 turd happened to Car and Driver test car, during its long term test.
What is really interesting is the "official GM supplied story", Car and Driver staff was fed: a piece of oil filter shrapnel supposedly got in the oil and destroyed a rod bearing which in turn obliterated the engine's entire lower end. Furthermore, Car and Driver alleges that this problem is well known to Corvette owners and that GM is actively investigating the problem.
Now, come on C&D writers, this problem has been going on ever since Stingray became available to unsuspecting buyers, however, what is well known to the Corvette owners is the thrust bearing failure, not rod bearing failure as described here, long time ago. The question that begs to be asked is: could the rod bearing be something new, could GM be lying to Car and Driver or perhaps Car and Driver writers cannot tell thrust bearing from rod bearing?
Nevertheless, the long term test report is quite condemning to Stingray owners but certainly not surprising at all. The newest Corvette is such a flawed car that seeing it break down is not a matter of IF but rather WHEN.
Also, not surprisingly, the Car and Driver writers cannot make themselves in Stingray seats, as described here, long time ago as well and due to lack of bottom cushion lumber support.
Overall, the report is very negative of the new car, in spite of hardest attempts by Car and Driver to repay GM for generous advertising "donations", including difficult to shift manual transmission.
Funny enough, as negative as the report is, there is no mentioning of shitty paint and orange peel which without any doubt must be present on the test car, hopefully the writers will get their vision corrected soon, LOL.
