Why Chinese Chevrolet Cruze offers DCT and American Corvette C7 Stingray and Z06 do not

+Tadge Juechter loves to present the newest Chevrolet Corvette as a pinnacle of +General Motors technology and the automotive progress leader.  Is this really the case?  Never mind OHC engines and twin turbo charging offered on other GM products sold in USA though, the real technology leader under GM brand is not even sold in USA, it is available in China and it is called Chevrolet Cruze.  Of all the technologies this car offers, there is one that stands out particularily: DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION.  Yes, while the American market has to make do with slush boxes, Chinese buyers have a DCT available on their cars.

Why is that?  The answer is simple, Chinese buyers are considerably more technology savvy and the GM venture in China is a joint venture of GM and Chinese government owned SAIC Motors. 

Since the buyers in China lean toward modern technology and SAIC has the vision to think ahead, DCT became a reality for Cruze sold in China.

The sad reality of American market is that those faithful to American cars tend to be of uneducated and limited intelligence variety.  More intelligent buyers stay away from American made cars and rely on imports to satisfy their needs, as well documented by thriving Porsche sales in USA.

Perhaps the American buyers are better off staying ignorant, defending another, supposedly better, mouse trap in a form of new 8 speed slush box in Corvette.  GM certainly cannot complain about the American buyers, they are easy to brain wash and will gladly jump on the band wagon of the newest and best, just because Tadge and GM marketing tells them so.

Since there is no market for Corvette in China, there is no DCT in Corvette.  In China, Corvette takes a big back seat to Porsche and BMW, offering absolutely nothing to the buyers who want to drive the newest technology.  Sad testimony to American Corvette nuthuggers but also the reality of situation as well.

To see Corvette blowhards spending their time justifying obsolescence as a valid substitute to progress is very entertaining and for many years to come.  As usual, Chinese have the last laugh, driving DCT equipped Cruze while Americans happily chug along in the slush box equipped Corvettes.
