Gotta hand it to Ford, it certainly knows how to create the right buzz in the automotive world, first with the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R, then with the new Ford GT and now, with the true performance bargain, Ford Focus RS.
As it stands, the lowly Focus value is truly outstanding, at about 100 dollars per hp versus about 138 dollars per hp for the Z06, and this is in a very optimistic scenario, assuming at least the first few minutes of operation, before heat soak and timing being pulled, LOL.
Compared to the Z06, the lowly Focus gets Recaro seating, coil over suspension and all wheel drive, elements that are missing from the Z06 at THREE TIMES THE PRICE. So where is exactly the value that Z06 supposed to represent? Drivability wise, the lowly Focus will be able to deliver its horsepower (all 318 hp) under just about any weather and certainly, it will not be stopped from visiting the Nurburgring due to rain, providing considerably more fun for the initial 32k investment than the Corvette.
On the surface, comparing Focus RS to Corvette Z06 may appear to be completely off the wall but it really is not... Not as far as the fun factor is involved. The technology and performance delivered by Ford in Focus RS is right down impressive, combining just the right amount of PERFORMANCE ORIENTED TECHNOLOGY with the just the right amount of practicality. Compared to Ford Focus RS, the newest +General Motors appears like a real dinosaur, firmly stuck in the past and showing its dated design and limitations from its introduction.
Certainly, it is beyond ironic to see Ford getting its idea of high performance car at such a low price while Corvette Z06 cannot offer even a fraction of such package at three times the price.
Maybe if +Tadge Juechter could get his shit together, maybe then he could start realizing how much of a failure his pathetic attempt at automotive stardom really is. What is even more ironic is the fact that the lowly Focus generates considerably more publicity buzz than the flagship. Live and learn Tadge. Oh and this is how you make a GLOBAL CAR, Tadge...

That Ford is a nice Hot Hatch and should do well against the King VW Golf GTI and the VW R type. The RS on a tight ruff track with lots of turns will of course spank the Z06. It will not touch it on the 1/4 mile or long tracks. I know ford does a great job when it comes to a balanced car and also one that can recover after you loose control. That Ford RS would be a great daily driver, weekend track car and should last a easy 15 years and 200,000 miles without any major problems
ReplyDeleteFord has a lot of rally history, unlike GM. The old RS200 with the proper powerplant could slap the Z06 on the strip. Pretty hot car this new RS is for sure, considerably more impressive than the Z06. Now, this is a bargain.
Deletethis car will probably kill a v6 SCRAPMARO.

I think it will be capable to take on more than just V6 Camaro porker. Unlike with GM, Ford really means Rally Sport. Hopefully the fuel system will allow for even more hp bump, AWD will keep this little rocket planted firmly on the pavement.
