This blog has mentioned on many occasions the unbelievable stupidity of designing the seventh generation of Corvette as a global car even in its basic Stingray form. Furthermore, this blog pointed out even bigger stupidity of the newest generation's so called flagship following the same path.
Of course, this notion has met the expected outcome but... this failed delusion ruined the seventh generation of Corvette for its true market, USA. Nowhere this becomes more obvious than with the flagship turd, Z06.
If there is a single design flaw that can be blamed for the majority of the Z06 failures, it is of course the undersized TVS1740 supercharger. Not only is this piece of shit completely out of place in a large displacement torque rich engine but it is also used outside of its optimum operational parameters, causing all sorts of problems directly contributing to the engine overheating and related heat soak issues.
So what could possibly "inspire" +Tadge Juechter and his corporate leash holders to use this horrible supercharger? The answer lies in EUROPEAN PEDESTRIAN SAFETY design requirements contained in NCAP PRO PED. At this time, these requirements are NOT enforced in USA and may not be enforced at all, no matter how much the automotive Nazis in NHTSA would like to see it happen.
Smart American manufacturers recognize this idiotic requirement and manage to avoid it altogether for US destined vehicles (Chrysler is one of them and Ford another). However, +General Motors assumed a different approach and decided to make all of their cars, REGARDLESS of the market, complied fully, no matter how few of the cars may be sold abroad.
So which part of that NCAP PED PRO contributes to that piece of shit supercharger? These European requirements include a design feature called ACTIVE HOOD? What is active hood? Active hood is a hood design that combines a low hood profile with its ability to absorb impact from
collision with a pedestrian to minimize the injury to the pedestrian. The design concept is closely related to front and rear zones and in the case of hood (bonnet) consists of collapsible center section. In order to achieve this characteristic, in addition to specially engineered reinforcements, a gap of approximately one inch is required between the engine and the bottom of the hood.
Of course, the way the supposedly "compact" and "low profile" LT1 engine is designed, there is no fucking way to squeeze in even 1900 supercharger (currently on recall for Cadillac CTSV and Camaro ZL1 due to its undersizing). Can the previous TVS2300 fit? Of course it would but... there is no way to maintain the low hood height and the clearance.
Is there a reason why GM decided to punish the majority of the Z06 buyers with penalty resulting from VOLUNTARY compliance with european requirement? Absolutely not!!! In the name of truly fucked up GLOBAL CAR bragging rights (not actual sales since they are beyond dismal anywhere else in the rest of the world), GM decided to punish the main buyer group, in US and make them pay dearly for the failed delusion.
As it is right now, there is a very peculiar situation: instead of abandoning the global car delusion or at least create a separate non US version (one that does not include track claims), lap monkey Juechter and GM marketers continue to bullshit the US buyers, baiting them with false claims and finding a variety of bullshit excuses to justify while this epic fuck up is a good thing, relying on the buyers to void their factory warranties while trying to rectify this pathetic situation.
This whole situation would not be a problem of course IF Juechter recanted his bullshit claims and stopped claiming the newest Z06 is a track capable or even worse, MOST TRACK CAPABLE EVER Corvette but apparently Juechter has no intention to fess up, thus, the bullshit continues and the Z06 should be avoided even more than the Stingray. Unfortunately, the car does not gain performance characteristics from cheesy emblems saying Z06.
