In reality, these cars are both technologically and mentally as far as they could get. While Corvette C7 Z06 is more of a failed science project, conducted by below average student and using ingridents and equipment purchased at Walmart, Dodge Viper is more of a Franklin Mint take on Faberge Egg: creating a pretty faithful recreation of old design using more modern materials and methods only to arrive to the point where one could only ask one question, WHY?
What both of these cars have in common is the minimum effort put into R&D, throwing enough surficial changes to full the general public and allow those who buy these cars to come up with a half ass justification why they bought these cars.
Corvette C7 is a visual and technological abomination even in its base Stingray form, only to get considerably worse with the flagship model, hastily put together using truly gaudy plastic confetti, failing to justify the cheezy outcome through performance improvements. The car is an aerodynamic brick, cramped inside and bulky outside, the mechanical aspects are either outdated or underdesigned.
Viper on the other hand soldiers on with no meaningful design changes, chugging along on the same short wheelbase causing ride to be super choppy, using the same steel truck like frame and curiously enough, recycling Generation 2 visually to the point where at least to an untrained eye, it is difficult to tell them apart. The whole excercise is outright puzzling, with fourth generation mechanicals clad with Generation 2 body. As with previous generations, certain level of physical agility and limited daily driver aspirations are required to purchase the car. To Viper's credit, it can be purchased in a reduced weight version which is impossible with grossly overweight Z06.
Like with any other generations, the latest flagship gets next to none attention, except for the dedicated geriatric crowd while Viper turns more head. However, considering that any Viper is an attention getter, this part alone means exactly jackshit. In other words, unless warranty is an objective, there is not much justification to purchase a new Viper versus an older one in mint condition.
So who buys these cars? Interestingly enough, old people are the main buyer group for both of these cars, however, when younger buyers create exceptions to the rule, the results can be outright funny.
Here is a quick test, which one of these assholes drives a Corvette Z06 and who drives the latest Viper? LOL
