Without any doubt, the latest generation of +General Motors Corvette has a dubious honor of becoming a literal death trap in quite a few ways and chances are very good, the number of the ways to depart this world may increase in the future, with the number of miles put on these cars.
If the lack of power steering, independently flying rear end (on the account of bad rear caster alignment), sudden cases of stalling and occasional fires are not bad enough, there is a new way in which the owners of the latest Corvettes may depart this world unexpectantly...
How it works? Typically, during cold start up, the owner puts the car in drive, steps on gas and... NOTHING... Then, several seconds later, all on its own, the newest Corvette, equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission, totally on its own, raises the RPMs and BOOM!!! the transmission engages and the car takes off violently, due to the high RPMs, of course and to the horror of the owner.
The second variation of the transmission malfunction is just as terrifying: after coming to stop (traffic light or stop sign, for example), with the transmission in gear, the car will outright refuse to move, resembling a transmission slippage, without this being the case. After a little while, all on its own again, the transmission may choose to engage and car will take off violently, this time due to the owner pressing on the gas pedal, while trying to make the latest Corvette move. Once again, the car will take off in most violent manner, and with some luck, plow into unsuspecting other drivers on the road.
Sounds scary? Yes it does because it FUCKING IS SCARY!!!
So what is GM doing about this dangerous situation? As much as it does about malfunctioning power steering-ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! (No, the current transmission reflash has nothing to do with this problem, it instead attempts to resolve the super jerky take off slams demonstrated by the latest auto masterpiece but of course it fails to accomplish this task as well).
Now, considering Mary Barra is busy paying out the feds the 900 million bribe to keep ignition lock fiasco hush hush, no way anyone will do anything about this dangerous situation just because the problem is intermittent and as far as GM knows, until the problem can be shown to the dealer, the problem does not exist...
