Unlike the Corvette team that talks a lot and then delivers nothing, the SRT team at Dodge undertook a monumental task of demonstrating the track worthiness of the newest Viper ACR (ACR Extreme actually), beat the track lap records on a mind boggling number of tracks and then finally decided to disclose the results.
As pointed out in this blog on many occasions, both Viper and Corvette peaked in their front engine, rear wheel drive in their previous generations. However, unlike the new Corvette, the new Viper is not new at all, it is almost a direct carry over from the previous generation, with some minor mechanical changes and unfortunately, a rehash of Generation 2 body.
The new Dodge Viper Extreme is a direct successor to the previous Viper ACR X, purpose built track animal, with no comfort accommodations and plenty of track handling and grip.
Due to the cheapness of Chrysler, the former SRT division had next to no money for R&D and it was actually the best thing that could happen to the Viper. Unlike the Viper designers, +Tadge Juechter had enough funding to change the previous design enough where it no longer works.
This may be the swan song for Viper, slated for permanent vacation in 2017 but what a way to go... The new Viper ACR is literally mopping all the race tracks with the piece of shit called C7 Z06.
The biggest difference between the Viper and Corvette in their latest versions is the fact that the run of the mill main variant of Viper is a platform that can be adopted to track duties and it can perform perfectly while the newest Corvette platform in either Stingray or Z06 versions is not worth shit... No magic can transform the latest Corvette into a track worthy car, no matter how much kool aid flows.
Certainly, Viper will be missed but in the meantime, what a humiliation for the piece of shit called Z06 and its creator, douchebag Juechter.... Hah!!!

peter just saw this. very sad the VIPER maybe discontinued but proves it will totally destroy the Pig z-06 with its overheating limp mode engine.
ReplyDeleteNo need to be sad, at least it gets extinct due to corporate mismanagement instead of engineering failure and it goes out with a big bang.
DeleteGen 5 is more like 4.5 and this is not a bad thing at all because gen 4 was so good. It is very enlightening to drive gen 4 and then gen 5 to realize this part. Without a roadster, gen 5 was destined to fail.
The only reason why ACR is back is because it is considerably cheaper to develop and build than a convertible (using a template from Gen 4 ACR) but again, this is not a bad thing.
I truly do hope I can get a chance to drive a Viper. I have driven the zr1 and its just such a nice car with the PTM. Light clutch and fantastic brakes. Now the Viper is not a very good DD car like the Zr1 could be but its still a scary beast. And yes a very big bang. Tadge must be shitting his pants now seeing his flagship is a fcking joke ! lol
DeleteDD is a very broad definition, you cannot really go grocery shopping with either. You can drive Viper as a DD, as long as you respect it and this is the best part about Viper, it demands respect and common sense. Sorting out the suspension and replacing factory stuff helps a lot too.
DeleteNot to worry, there is another Snake that likes to eat corvettes, it is called the Super Snake and is 750 Hp high tech motor.

To bad it has a blower and not twin turbo, you would think Ford being in love with Turbos would of gone that route. I still think a Ecoboost unleashed would be better, the torque on those is unreal.
LOL, if you search on this blog, this is actually a very old news regarding the supersnake.
DeleteThere are two problems with hi po turbo mustang: packaging and Shelby's profit margin.
Last time before ecoboost Mustang came with a turbo was back in the eighties, in SVO version and only because German Ford had a turbo engine available, even then, the cost was higher than of the pushrod V8.
Shelby has a similar approach to Callaway, with the difference being the execution is better and the starting platform more friendly to the mods.
