General Motors offers a solution to overheating electric power assisted steering racks as a performance modification for owners of Corvettes Stingray and Z06?

With so many reasons why the newest +General Motors Corvette generation and especially its flagship Z06 model could be considered a death trap, one would think that when a solution is supposedly available to cure safety related problems, this solution would be offered to all owners of the affected cars and at no charge (usually it is called a voluntary recall).

No such luck with GM (what a surprise!!!).  As mentioned on many occasions, the electric motor used to assist the steering rack on the newest Corvettes has a nasty habit of overheating and forcing the lucky driver to experience manual steering while attempting to control a 3600 pound behemoth.  Since the problem happens at high speeds and usually while negotiating a turn,  the sudden absence of power assistance is right down dangerous.

Considering the fact that GM has a well established record of using Asian suppliers with questionable quality and reliability records (see the windshield wiper GM recall), it is not difficult to expect an inferior quality of the steering motor to be the culprit of the problem, making it susceptible to overheating due to insufficient output and cooling features, combined with  poor air circulation (just like the turdy supercharger).

Now, one would expect +Tadge Juechter and Mary Barra to fess up, admit the fuck up and offer motor replacement to prevent future problems and someone actually dying due to this problem.  NO SUCH LUCK!!!

Somehow it is not surprising that the "solution" is half assed and most likely lifted off internet forums, with the actual problem solver consisting of a hastily made air scoop that mounts in the undertray.  As with anything else offered from GM for the newest Corvette, this half ass fix nixes the factory warranty as well?  WTF?
