2016 is another year of +General Motors sustaining more ass whooping in the never ending war of horsepower and bang for the buck. As it stands, the beating +Tadge Juechter and his followers receive not just continues but intensifies and Ford is there to make sure of it.
By now, the formerly greatest Corvette ever, C7 Z06 is a thing of the past, collecting dust on dealers lots (unsold) and car magazines (totally unloved). With sales sagging and plenty of parts sitting around, the ever inventive Juechter put together a joke called Grand Sport, using Z06 body parts and Stingray drivetrain. The result, a heavy, anti-aerodynamic brick, looking like its more overheating cousin but powered by the LT1 460-hp turd, with more drag, weight and rolling resistance. The price tag for this newer failure and act of desperation: right around 66 grand.
Interestingly enough, there is another car that can be had for the same money, 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby Terlingua. For that price, assuming one is lucky to snatch one of the 50 being made, there is a very impressive 750 hp engine, along with all the Shelby bells and whistles and super comfortable racing seats and most of all, collectibility and guaranteed future value retention- none of which can be ever associated with the latest generation of Corvette or Camaro.
Here is a recommendation for General Motors and it is a very serious one: considering that names like Roush and (amazingly enough, posthumously) Shelby continue to create automotive news for Mustang and other high performance Ford creations, why not invest in ouija board and have a serious chat with guys like Duntov, Guldstrand and Lingenfelter and after getting a few engineering hints from them, secure a permission to put their names on a real sports car? Without any doubt, ouija board approach should considerably more effective than anything coming from the Corvette team and its corporate leash holders so far.
Best analogy yet Peter!!!! Today's engineers, marketing and sales at GM is worthless
