As this blog pointed out recently, the latest generation of +General Motors Chevrolet Corvette has already lost its limelight, ignored by the general public and completely unloved by the automotive press (as very well demonstrated by intensified rumors of mid engine Corvette C8). In other words, the plan of igniting the interest of the general public, translating into huge sales fizzled.
The fact the "genius" behind the C7 fiasco, +Tadge Juechter made a complete ass of himself by bragging about Nurburgring time for the Z06 flagship, getting his ass whooped by the Generation 5 Dodge Viper on US tracks has further expedited the fade out of the latest generation of Corvette, rendering it fully IRRELEVANT.
As shown by the 2016 corporate kit car, Corvette C7 Grand Sport, even the most mentally challenged corporate leash holders realize the jig is up and without real news, like scoring a record Nurburgring lap or a string of US track records surpassing the Viper accomplishment, it is time to stir up the automotive circles with some bullshit news, creating publicity artificially.
How does GM artificially create publicity? By registering Corvette designations as trademarks. Just like with ZORA being registered before C7 Z06 was introduced to the market, it is time again to pull the same idiotic stunt once again, this time registering ZR1 as a trademark. Why now? The time has come to start selling the Grand Sport kit car.
So why is this nothing short of truly idiotic marketing stunt? Just for starters, it is not the original ZR-1 moniker that is being registered, it is the later one, associated with C6 generation only. Is GM going to sell the previous ZR1 again? Although this would be a smart thing to do due to the ZR1 being a much better car than the C7 Z06 piece of shit, this is not going to happen. And of course, what if someone decides to create a ZR-1 car? Maybe a Mustang ZR-1? LOL Perhaps, GM leaves the ZR-1 registration for a couple of years from now, as another hollow publicity stunt?
Ironically enough, GM never trademarked Z06 and Grand Sport designations even though it started producing both of these once again, that was quite a chance GM was taking (big sarcasm).
The reality: there will never be a C7 ZR1, Juechter and his team of numbnuts simply have no ability to produce such car, unless it will be done the C7.R or Grand Sport way. Or perhaps, there will be a ZR1 car cover option coming soon?
Nice try Juechter but a huge fail as usual.
