Corvette C7 Stingray- the ultimate pig in a poke?

Chevrolet dealers could never be characterized as smart and intelligent, even less so now.

It is a fact that Corvette C7 Stingray are already dead, between the dead of winter and limited number of interested buyers, not allowing the shoppers not to just test drive but even touch the car, this is a great recipe for making bad thing (weak sales) even worse.

Granted, like with any other group of buyers, Corvette C7 buyers include a limited number of +General Motors kool aid drinking nut huggers willing to buy new Corvette sight unseen (Rick Hendrick, the fine Chevrolet dealer and idiot supreme paid ONE MILLION DOLLARS for the very first C7 before it was even built) .

However, there is a small problem here:  the nut hugging group  was pretty small to begin with.   Then, this group got even small, purely due to truly awful  Then, this group was further reduced by the word of mouth coming from the buyers facing a slew of paint, fit and finish and mechanical issues showing up in new Corvette.

Now, anyone with even an ounce of brains would look around and find out what the competition was doing in the meantime.  Do Porsche, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Audi subscribe to this YOU CAN LOOK BUT YOU CANNOT TOUCH OR DRIVE attitude?  The aforementioned brands are considerably more expensive than Chevrolet Corvette but do they take the same approach?  ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

In fact, it is much easier to test drive a Porsche or Aston Martin than this fine new Corvette.  So what is the result?  New Corvettes sit on dealers lots and DO NOT TOUCH translates into DO NOT BUY very quickly, due to resentment of the potential buyers.  This resentment tends to be quite permanent and strong enough for the buyers to cross shop among other brands (assuming they have the money to do so).

Generation 5 SRT Viper dealers tried this approach already, the result is Chrysler cutting production of new Viper by 1/3 and facing production shut down altogether.

Someone would think that +General Motors  and its dealers would learn from this fiasco but apparently they are too stupid to get this part.    Maybe this could work with a car that was truly special and unique but in this case, this is a run of the mill Chevrolet Corvette,  distinguished from previous generations by possibly the worst paint and fit and finish quality ever plus questionable aesthetics of the new design, especially the rear end.

New Corvettes are already rotting on dealers lots.  Between horrible paint, summer tires only during winter sales and stupidity of the dealers who set a new standard in delusion and arrogance,  the already sizeable discounts on this new turd should increase quite a bit shortly.  The worst buying season is coming shortly-INCOME TAX SEASON.  This factor alone should kill off any more sales, no test drive should just assure things will stay that way.
