But... it really isn't. In fact, this is the ultimate insult to anyone considering a purchase of this new Corvette in hope of purchasing an extra ordinary newest sports car.
Never mind the nepotism behind a father purchasing a car his son developed, never mind the fact that old people behind a wheel of any car in general are not just a nuisance to others but also a clear and present danger to everyone else on the other.
What really matters here is that the old geezer Juechter is actually able to get in this car and then drive it. Furthermore, and even more significantly, the young feeling Juechter was apparently an avid Porsche owner. So did he switch to Corvette because it is a better car or because new Corvette is not really an all out hardcore sports car and instead it is just another thinly disguised AARP vehicle of choice for those fine spring chickens that can afford it? Would Juechter senior consider SRT Viper instead?
The answer is pretty clear and it is actually an endorsement to Viper and Porsche, no he would not.
Why? At 80, it would be a miracle for Juechter senior to even get in a Viper and even a bigger miracle to see him manage to shift through the manual gears in a manner allowing for actual driving style Viper was designed for.
Instead, +Tadge Juechter father chose the new Corvette and for the same exact reasons this car is a failure as a true sports car-it does not requires any driving skills at all. The automatic transmission and all nanny and fuel economy measures are there to make sure of it.
So just like it was not enough gold chains and velour sweat suit and golf bag stigma surrounding Corvette in general, the newest one managed to attract the attention of people who by all accounts should not be driving at all.
Do you want a real sports car? Look somewhere else, new Corvette ain't it-unless your driving abilities are those of 80 y.o. geezer who forgot there are other people on the road.
And +Tadge Juechter , he certainly could earn more respect by just giving his own dad a ride in a car instead of allowing him to drive. Tadge, this is not an endorsement, just a sign of irresponsibility. Scary thing to think how many other old geezers will follow Juechter dad's example.
