Cannot get any more ironic than seeing rust on the epitome of age of plastic, Plastic Fantastic aka Chevrolet Corvette and the latest Corvette is certainly no exception, no matter what spin +Tadge Juechter or anyone else in +General Motors puts on it.
Granted, the areas where rust appears on Corvette are not much of an actual rust through concern but still, with all the revolutionary technologies and artificially created competition with high end cars, the presence of rust is beyond pathetic.
Certainly, with all the hype created by Juechter and enthusiastic buyers, the devil is in the details when trying to create a new image for Corvette, straying away from the typical cheaply made and disposable POS that the rest of the world, outside of the heavy GM kool aid drinkers tends to see.
No worries though, a quick look at the rust prominently appearing on the latest state of the art, so called 2 piece rotors and widely advertised stainless steel exhaust quickly resolve any doubts-it is still the same POS showing its cheapness in every possible place.
Since perception is the major force behind any marketing attempt, it is very interesting to see that absolutely nobody at GM considered very simple fixes to at least create an illusion of Corvette moving up to higher quality of the alleged competitors such as Porsche. A short burst of rustproofing coating over exhaust system welds and perhaps zinc coating of the brake rotor hats could go long way here, especially when painted calipers are a pretty expensive option for the Stingray buyers.
Of course, none of this has been done and in the grand scheme of things, considering the horrible paint quality, poorly fitting body panels, factory applied epoxy to cracked panels and slew of other quality issues, this money would be wasted. Nevertheless, the good ole GM never fails to deliver-on being cheap and contradictory to the advertisements the quintessential Stingray mouthpiece Juechter lives by.
