The chief Corvette bullshit artist, +Tadge Juechter spends a lot of time touting the upcoming C7 Z06 as the car that will put to shame all other cars, mainly those referred to as supercars.
As of now, the only specifications that were released are the horsepower and torque of the engine that will be used in the new Z06. Interestingly enough, the horsepower already went up, from 625 to 650, clearly making the new car another SNAFU, a Z06 by name only, while clearly setting the objective on competing with the previous ZR1 car, instead of the real Z06.
This maneuver is a risky one, most likely driven (pun intended) by the extra weight the new car will carry, partially due to weight penalty of the base Stingray and partially due to truly aweful aerodynamics of the Stingray and subsequently the Z06.
What is really interesting is the fact that the new Z06 includes special touches that make creating additional downforce as inefficient as possible. These problems could be easily avoided but due to arrogance and ignorance of Juechter and rest of the +General Motors Corvette design team, proudly there, clearly stating: HEY, LOOK AT ME, I DO NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT AERODYNAMIC BUT WILL STILL SELL THIS CAR TO PLENTY OF IDIOTS.
Two items that are very obvious, at least to someone who does not drink GM kool aid:
Front bumper and splitter. Normally, if someone has any clue at all, the main point of installing a splitter is to lower the pressure point of the front of the car, optimizing the air flow to reduce the front end lift. The lower the pressure point and less the turbulence in the area of the "split" (high pressure on top and low pressure on the bottom), the better-this is not even a matter of science but plain old COMMON SENSE.
Not surprisingly, the +General Motors Corvette design team and Juechter himself, took the complete opposite approach. Yes, the splitter is there but it is there where it has as little effect as possible and causes more turbulence than lift reduction. In fact, the design of the Z06 splitter is as fucked up as it possibly could be, creating a true dead zone between the "fangs" and the actual splitter. To make the matters even worse, the splitter is not where it should be, in the middle (this is where it really is needed).
Could this idiotic design be avoided? Of course it could be but then, what would Tadge do?
Exposed tires. Tires create lift and turbulence, this is a fact, this tire created lift works in conjunction with the lift produced by the front of the car and in case of Z06, there is already plenty of lift up front.
This photo clearly shows the exposed tires, in spite of the cheesy and truly stupid half ass fender air curtains and those convoluted side skirts. Could this part be avoided? Including turbulence caused by those add on curtains? Of course it could be avoided but once again, Tadge is there to make sure the hideous form does not follow any function.
Great job as usual Tadge. Cannot wait to see the drag coefficient figure being released, along with the top speed and maybe, even more power? Stupid is, stupid does-once again.
