When you lie, time is always your greatest ally. As time goes by, people tend to forget about promises that were made during a hype inducing marketing campaign. Fittingly, this is exactly what happened with the big announcement +General Motors and Corvette's chief mouthpiece, +Tadge Juechter made over a year ago.
The big selling point, and an attempt to create an illusion of exclusivity to the new plastic fantastic (also called a BAIT) was the establishment of 900 dealers authorized to sell and service the Stingray.
The dealers who wanted to service new Corvette had to invest time and money to train their technicians and purchase Stingray specific equipment.
This arrangement was a stupid idea IF anyone cared to use their had for anything else besides a Corvette hat hanger (a very popular item among Corvette enthusiasts and AARP dues payers).
First of all, the major chunk of the 900 dealers rewarded for past volume sales happened to be concentrated in the Midwest, unlike the buyers. Thus, anyone purchasing the Corvette long distance, had a very good chance of not having an authorized service center in their neck of the woods and had to rely on the same general variety of dealership technicians, fully contrary to GM and Juechter's announcements.
As the sales of Stingray started to sag, GM extended availability of Stingrays for sale to all GM dealers, this actually happened at the end of the last year and no longer required certified technicians to work on the new Corvette.
Today, the exclusivity of newest Corvette is a fully dead notion, any GM dealers interested in selling it can do so and the certification requirements no longer apply to dealership technicians, as already well documented by several destroyed motors and long wait times for the buyers, waiting for the technicians to figure out the numerous problems plaguing the new car.
Does anyone remember the technician certification requirements and demands to have them implemented? Too much time has passed and lack of memory retention typical to aging Corvette buyers works out great to forget the past claims. Apparently Tadge Juechter suffers from permament memory lapse as well since he never ever mentions the technician certification anymore.
