Zora Arkus-Duntov, unlike +Tadge Juechter , was a real engineer and it certainly showed in the ways +General Motors corporate douchebags like Bill Mitchell adopted his ideas: either taking them out of context and against Zora's will or slapping his initials on the cars that had absolutely nothing to do with his design and engineering philosophy.
Here are a few examples of the past "celebrations"
1990 Corvette ZR-1 with ZR standing for Zora Racing. An impressive but of course outsourced to be impressive LT5 DOHC engine stuffed in the truly awful fourth generation chassis and clad with the same as run of the mill Corvette body panels while costing twice as much as base Corvette. Certainly a great tribute to Zora, considering the bomb this car has been financially.
1996 Corvette Grand Sport-GM managed to make the car heavier than base by about 100 lbs while bumping the power by amazing 30 hp. The weight distribution of 53/47 made the car a true performer (big sarcasm here). Considering that Zora died in 1996, sending the racing fanatic off with the truly hideous red interior on a blue car with stripes and idiotic hash marks certainly made the last days on Earth very enjoyable for Zora.
2001 Corvette Z06-once again, a "healthy" power bump over base car by first 35 and then 55 hp. Finally, the car managed to be lighter than its base cousin although resorting to measures like thinner glass while making the car a hard top, without structural gains is not the best way to celebrate Zora as an engineer.
2006 Corvette Z06-INITIALLY, a car that managed to be lighter than the base and as close as Corvette ever got to its racing premise. A seemingly decent tribute to Zora gone wrong due to inferior engine components and bored out small block, failing, ironically enough, during racing events.
2009 Corvette ZR1-a fast but crudely made car unfit for actual racing, in spite of Zora Racing designation.
2010-Corvette Grand Sport once again. The ultimate poser car and ultimate insult to Zora, so far. While weighing in at ZR1 numbers and aerodynamics, car packs the power of a base car and even though the idiotic hash marks are available once again, not coming even close to the 1963 original.
2015 Z06, most likely the tackiest and heaviest tribute to Zora ever, right down to automatic transmission.
