This is actually a purely rhetorical question that only dim witted Corvette worshipping +General Motors kool drinkers would bother to answer.
As much as +Tadge Juechter likes to preach otherwise, alluding to whimsical superiority of new Corvette and the upcoming Z06, the Corvette buying core is all about visual gratification, gladly discarding any performance gains in the name of visual association.
The past generation of Corvette showed this part very well, making the quintessential poser Corvette, C6 Grand Sport the ultimate best seller of the sixth generation of the car. Looking exactly like its manual transmission equipped and performance fortified Z06 and ZR1 siblings, the Grand Sport was the ultimate sixth generation seller. Never mind the inferior aerodynamics and extra weight caused by wider body and larger wheels and tires (and dry sump for manual transmission cars), the wide bodied Grand Sport outsold the originals by a far margin, just like it outsold the narrower bodied base cars, giving the buyers instant visual gratification at the fraction of the cost of the real performers. What was a real big selling point was the fact the automatic transmission was available in this look alike, allowing those who are not capable of shifting the gears themselves, a "privilege" of driving a look alike.
For the seventh generation, as of now, the visual distinction between the current "performer" Z51 and the base are limited to rather subtle differences, wheels and rear spoiler. Otherwise, nobody can tell from just looking if the car has a dry sump, larger brakes (except for the slotted rotors) or functional rear quarter panel vents.
Predictably, there is already a visual Z51 look alike option available, ZF1, giving the poser crowd a cheaper and factory built visual replica of Z51.
However, there is a new Corvette sheriff coming to town, Z06. This car is visually distinguished from the lowly base and Z51 through wider quarter panels, extra vents and plastic front add ons.
Is there a chance GM will not produce a look alike version of the Z06? Actually, there is a certainty that the Z06 look alike will be coming in a matter of months after Z06 is released to the public, along with its price sticker shock.
Yes, like with Grand Sport, the car will be heavier and aerodynamically inferior to the current base, with more rolling resistance due to larger wheels and tires and of course, larger weight. But... who really cares about these details? The car will sell based solely on looks and it will be a best selling Corvette version once again. The visually driven Corvette sheep will make sure this is exactly the case.
