The term "world class interior" is the most popular phrase used by Corvette mouthpiece +Tadge Juechter and +General Motors marketing department. The new digital instrumentation and the accompanying touch screen entertainment display are of course touted as the great example of this "world class" upgrade.
So is this really the case? Absolutely NOT!!! What this "world class" moniker really amounts to is a crudely executed IMITATION of "world class" interior. This imitation is like imitation cheese or Chinese made knock offs, kind of look like the real thing but never measure up with regards to design, quality of materials or choice of components.
Of course the infamous infotainment piece of shit and dysfunctional navigation always come to mind as examples of the cheap imitation present in the newest Corvette but there is even a better example, something that typically escapes the Corvette and GM aficionados who typically are too high on kool aid to do any kind of reality check.
The case in point, the DIGITAL TACHOMETER. Digital tachometers are typically used in high revving and fast revving cars to surpass the limitations of analog instruments that simply cannot keep up with super high revving motors, such as the one in Lexus LFA.
In other cars, digital tachometer are more of a matter of trend following and choice, not real necessity. Usually, a graphic emulation of an analog tachometer is used to maintain the feel of traditional instruments while adding convenience and speed of digital electronics.
To maintain a fluent and pleasing to the eye display, a digital tachometer requires a fairly fast refresh rate (measured in frames per second, just like TV and computer monitors). The minimum refresh rate required is 60 frame per second, to fool the eyes and brain into seeing a continuous display.
Now, here comes the new Corvette Stingray and upcoming C7 Z06 and its digital tachometer, along with the rest of the digital instrumentation. Guess what? To put it mildly, the tachometer display looks like SHIT, very choppy and fragmented. This is observation that was made by several reviewers of the newest Corvette last year.
So why such a shitty and truly embarrassing digital tachometer display? Well, the answer is because the refresh rate of the "world class" digital instrumentation in the newest Corvette is TWENTY FRAMES PER SECOND!!! In other words, it is at 1/3 of the absolute bare minimum to make it superior to ANALOG counterpart (like the one in the fifth and sixth generation of Corvette).
Ironically enough, this truly embarrassing refresh rate is right on par with the design of the rest of the interior, closely resembling FOURTH generation of Corvette, from the 80's!!!
Now, since this truly embarrassing inferiority should motivate GM to upgrade it, just to keep up with alleged competitors like Porsche, one would expect that the display would be upgraded for 2015 and especially for Z06 version of Corvette but guess what, no such thing!!! The newest Corvette marches on with true piece of shit digital instrumentation, including the vomit inducing choppy tachometer.
To GM's credit, due to its own ignorance, Corvette crowd can be easily had, just give them a flashy display, call it great and they will love it, no matter how obsolete it may be. To the rest of the car world, this is however nothing short of true piece of shit, inferior to cars costing 1/3 of the Corvette.
The biggest irony here is that the digital instrumentation cannot keep up with the obsolete counterparts it replaced, attempting to make progress while using obsolete parts and technologies simply just does not work.
Will GM upgrade this dirty little secret during the C7 lifespan? Not a chance!!! Completely inferior and obsolete technology and components will soldier on until the very last C7 car.
Fittingly enough, a cheap imitation of fancy electronics goes very well with the car that is a cheap imitation of a TRACK READY sports car!!!
