Corvette Stingray is one fast car, moving quickly toward becoming a certifiable death and fire trap. Strangely enough, as everyone else begins to realize this unfortunate turn of event, the majority of Stingray buyers continue to occupy their time finding faults with other car makes, applying extra coats of wax and protective film and practicing culture of denial. The entire situation is reminiscent of last moments on board of Titanic, with the band of Stingray buyers and enthusiasts playing their last tune while the ship is going down.
The problems plaguing the new Corvette are real, new issues are discovered daily, with some, as leaking fuel tanks raising serious safety concerns. It appears that a growing percentage of current owners and potential buyers finally come to their senses and more and more of Stingray sitting on used car lots confirm this somber notion.
However, the majority of Stingray owners and buyers still refuse to acknowledge the reality and in a very strange turn of events, turn outright hostile toward those who dare to make the issues with their cars public. This is certainly a very peculiar reaction, escapism of sorts, a strange but not surprising reaction.
Can the culture of hostility and secrecy help improve the failing Stingray? If anything, it will accomplish the opposite, arming +General Motors with the attitude of immunity and excuse not to fix or improve anything that causes problems with the Stingray.
For those who experience the problems with their cars, being ostracized by their peers certainly does not provide them with any comfort and feel of solidarity. Without any doubt, Stingray purchase may be very well the first and last purchase for quite a few of first time buyers, leaving them with quite an aftertaste lasting for quite a while. Can used Stingrays lose enough value to justify them as a safe purchase? This part is yet to be seen although it is highly doubtful that this will be the case.
