On the sixth generation of Corvette, the air bag light on was commonly caused by the seat belt connector under the drivers seat coming loose. There was a change made in 2008 that moved the connector that helps some but did not completely remedy it. Although not as often on 2008 – 2013 model years, the problem never went away. The problem was driven by the connector being placed directly under the seat cushion. When a customer used easy exit or memory so the seat moves at each door opening it would work the connector loose over time. The fix was to attach it to the seat frame so it did not get drug across the bottom of the carpet. In 2008 they made the wire a little longer to move the connector out of the way. Of course since the air bag light came on, there was never a recall issued to correct the issue, just because the customer saw the problem displayed. Of course, never mind the fact that air bag light meant no air bag activation in the event of an accident but this is just a small detail.
Strangely enough, +General Motors eliminated the easy exit option on the seventh generation of Corvette, making all buyers complain. What is the significance of the change in seat memory and easy exit feature? What this signifies is the fact the GM never bothered to fix the issue effectively and instead, chose to disable the feature that contributed to faster surfacing of this problem. Yes, this is the typical GM attitude and apparently nothing has changed here.
Is it a coincidence that over 2000 Stingrays are currently on hold due to air bag related issues?
As usual, all GM cares about is hiding problems and extending the time before the problems surface, preferably after factory warranty expires.
