When the sevent generation Corvette flagship was first introduced back in 2014, it was advertised as THE MOST TRACK CAPABLE CORVETTE EVER, relying on its alleged track duty credentials as the means to validate the newest offering in the crowded field of sports cars and high performance touring cars.
At that time, the chief of the Corvette program alluded directly and indirectly to the performance capabilities of this car as equal to the best in the field of high performance driving. Clearly, the silhouette of the Nurburgring track in the background was supposed to send a subliminal message to the potential buyers, making them aware a new king was born.
Right from the start, the newest flagship faced very high odds, due to its high weight, obsolete drivetrain and non existent aerodynamics. The fact the outside of the car resembled a productive trip to a scrap yard, with a stop at JC Whitney and Pep Boys and their deal of the day offerings did not help, either.
Then, the humiliation of real life testing and subsequent driveability issues became a daily occurence for the newest flagship. The string of press test failures, lack of Nurburgring record and mounting overheating issues clearly put the chief of Corvette program, +Tadge Juechter on increasing defense, culminating in creating question asking sections on online Corvette forums, for the first time ever.
Slowly, the marketing strategy of the newest flagship changed, reducing the MOST TRACK CAPABLE CORVETTE EVER to a slightly scaled down but still clearly fraudulent marketing slogan describing the Z06 as THE MOST CAPABLE CORVETTE EVER.
Since the problems with the newest flagship go down to a flawed design, they cannot be easily fixed, no amount of aftermarket snake oil can remedy horrible drivetrain layout, terminal aerodynamics and absolute lack of consideration for choice of power and subsequent cooling measures. Thus, the flagship continues to soldier on unchanged for 2016, delivering considerably less than it promises, as expected.
As the latest Motor Trend Best Driver's Car evaluation showed, the car is indeed a true piece of shit. So is the new flagship truly the most capable Corvette ever? Of course it is not and even GM marketers have no choice but to succumb to the unpleasant reality or have they?
Apparently not, at least when looking at the Chevrolet website and the newest marketing slogan used to push this piece of shit and fruit of delusion off the dealers lots.
According to the latest GM marketing, the 2016 Corvette C7 is now a CERTIFIED SUPERCAR. Yes, forget the petty aspirations of swaying Porsche and Viper buyers, apparently now, the flagship steals Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren buyers!!!
Forget the performance claims equaling supercars, the flagship now IS A SUPERCAR and LMAO, it is CERTIFIED AS SUCH.
So how does that GM "supercar certification" work? This would be a great question to GM and specifically, GM's legal office, considering CERTIFIED implies a process of certification and to this blog's knowledge, there is no such thing since even the term SUPERCAR is a subject of many heated discussions.
Without any doubt, this must be omission on GM's part, forgetting to include the description of that supercar certification. Is this certification process managed by SAE or perhaps a newly created INTERNATIONAL SUPERCAR FEDERATION? Maybe FIA runs this certification program or maybe fucking NASA (talking about US space agency here). Clearly, this part must be clarified on Chevrolet's website as soon as possible to prevent any likely legal actions holding GM and Juechter legally responsible for not just bullshitting but outright lying to the general public and potential buyers.
Oh and BTW, have any of the Koenigseggs, Lambos or McLarens have been certified? Clearly, the certification does not involve any horsepower, top speed or track activities but surely, GM would not be lying, right?
Tadge, get out from under that fucking rock and provide some explanation here, the supercar certification program must be a good one if this piece of shit Z06 made the cut.
I would never consider a corvette a "supercar" especially the C7. Ever since I have read and heard the words supercar and corvette in the same sentence I have laughed out loud. This abomination is just another thrown together hunk of shit that will fall apart over a short period of time. Remember the IROC Z, haha I'm trying to forget it too. same company built that too. BTW I don't hear the flagships of Ford or Dodge chasing after phases like supercar. Corvettes, Mustangs and Challengers are American sports cars, not to be mistaken with years of hand built pride and world class performance and engineering like the Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini.
