Seeing the truly shitty quality and fit and finish of the new Corvette, one would think that maybe +General Motors would get creative and come up with an option to guarantee at least decent paint quality or body panel fitment?
Seeing how so many buyers deal with true nightmares of correcting problems that mysteriously escaped the Bowling Green quality control team and then escaped again their dealer's watchful eye (big sarcasm here) during so called pre-delivery inspection (PDI), one would expect +Tadge Juechter to get creative and maybe come up with extra clear coat option or guaranteed personal quality control inspection but no... GM figured out a way better to ream the buyers and for full FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS: PIN
So what does 5 grand exactly buy? Well, it buys a personalized VIN for the new Corvette. This is actually brilliant, even more so than the idiotic engine building program where new buyer gets to monkey wrenches with fine UAW crew and actually pay for the privilege of working on their own car.
To be exact, this scam is not new to the Stingray, it started in 2011 and it cost exactly the same then as it does now. That personalized VIN is actually very misleading and deceitful, the buyer cannot just pick any number that suits his or her needs, it is only a choice within the current sequence, thus, it does not mean jack should someone attempt to compete with Rick Hendrick and his million dollar buys of first production Corvettes.
But... for the 5 grand, the sucker, uhm cough, buyer gets to deal with a CONCIERGE, assisting the buyer in picking this partially custom VIN.
Now, here is the kicker, once the number is selected, the car will carry the extra 5k charge, regardless if the transaction is completed by the original buyer or not. A dealer who gets stuck with PIN car may have lots of fun trying to pass the extra charge on the potential buyer. And here is another kicker: paying 5 extra grand does absolutely nothing to expedite the production of the car, this sucker fee does absolutely nothing to ease up the wait.
During C6 production, there was only a handful of buyers willing to part with their monies on this account, the dealers are making a bigger push with C7, maybe there will be more idiots willing to pay five extra grand for their Stingray? There certainly already is more of the numbnuts willing to monkey the wrenches assembling their new Corvette, chances are very good the stupidity will extend to the PIN option.
