The paint problems with the +General Motors flagship Corvette C7 Z06 is a given, with no surprise whatsoever. Considering the flagship is assembled and painted in the same Bowling Green plan, using the same materials, equipment and truly dedicated UAW crew, like with the base Stinkray, oops, Stingray, a passable paint job is a crapshoot at best.
However, what is not given is the truly shitty or more accurately non existent customer service provide by GM that comes with the alleged "pinnacle" of GM premium high performance abilities (big LOL right here). Considering the flagship costs up to TWICE as much as the base car, a naïve soul would certainly expect twice as good customer service to address problems that seem to multiply like rabid rabbits with each produced Z06.
So is this the case? Has +Tadge Juechter made sure personally that buyers spending hefty chunk of change receive the treatment that is certainly and logically warranted?
The answer is of course a very resounding NO!!! In spite of all the bullshit coming from Juechter, Mary Barra and other corporate GM zombies, the new GM offers exactly the same customer service to its buyers as it offered in the past: fucking buyers and their wallets over and feeding them with the same old bullshit about quality of the car and its paint being within expected production standards.
As the author of the blog experienced in the past and one of the reasons that motivated him to abandon the GM ship, as soon as the signature appears on the purchase invoice dotted line, the GM support and customer service disappear. The experience of dealing with GM customer service, especially when paint problems surface (pun intended) AFTER the purchase make a root canal without anesthetic feel extremely pleasurable.
The bottom line with paint problems is that the buyer is fully on their own, it is considerably less stressful and considerably more constructive to find a qualified body shop and pay for correction of any problems. The interesting thing here is the fact that this shitty customer service extends across the entire GM line up, no matter if this is a Sonic or Z06, still the same aggravating game of being forced to deal with them most incompetent and unprofessional customer support on this planet.
The buyers of the newest flagship are learning this part rather quickly after already being dumb enough to be coned into buying this latest piece of shit pretending to be not just a sports car but apparently a supercar as well.
The case in point is this schmuck who discovered the mismatched color of the paint on his newest purchase, along with plenty of scratches throughout the car. The ironic part here is that this is a black car that should not create these issues but it certainly does.
Nevertheless, after several weeks of being jerked around by those who supposedly are there to address buyers concerns and needs, this guy gave up and went ahead with having the entire car repainted, on his dime. Of course, this is not cheap and certainly economically not feasible (there is no way to recuperate the cost of paint job due to truly shitty resale value of these cars) but at least, this is a way to preserve sanity and avoid continuous stress resulting from interactions with GM.
The point of this story is that the best way to avoid this kind of aggravation is to avoid these cars altogether. Of course, this blog mentioned long time ago that at least to address the paint problems, a PRIMER EDITION should be offered and the reason is very well documented by this sorry story.
