The Truth About Corvette C7 Gas Mileage Ratings

GM knows how to play the shell game.  30 mpg figure continues to be seen as the actual MPG rating for this car.  The truth?  There is only one scenario under which C7 can achieve this rating: constant speed highway cruising in 7th gear.  What about the rest of the time?  Two factors affecting fuel economy of this car: excessive weight and aerodynamics inferior to C6 so called narrow body.

The excessive weight of this car cannot defy laws of physics, object at rest tends to stay at work until work is done on this object.  The heavier the object, the more work and ultimately energy has to be spent to get this done. The real mileage in the city will be exactly the same for this car as it is for C6.  Whatever efficiency DI added to the car will be readily erased by this extra weight and lots of it too.

The inferior aerodynamics are caused by increased frontal area of this car, it may be a bit lower but it is also wider.  What is really ironic is the fact it rides on skinny tires while being wider.

The result of poorly engineered car will be felt in real life.  GM can claim what it wants to claim but car's shortcomings and laws of physics cannot be suspended by Juechter and GM marketing department.

What would be a better way, without hampering the performance aspect?  Making this car LIGHTER.  Seeing Juechter bragging about need to add weight to this car to improve its performance and fuel economy has to be the biggest BS of the year.
