Cars like the Chrysler evil twins, Hellcat Charger and Challenger offer a very straight forward option to extract highest levels of dragstrip performance that happened to exceed the numbers produced by the latest Z06. The Hellcats numbers are beyond incredible, considering their weight, lousy weight distribution, high center of gravity, questionable aerodynamics and overall sheer size.
And here is a very strange thing regarding the latest Corvette flagship. Outside of Corvette inbreeds speculations regarding better results using drag radials, there is absolutely not a single factory test that actually uses drag radials to at least attempt a minimal damage control. As a matter of fact, +General Motors assumed a complete opposite stance to Dodge and its CEO, Tom Kuniskis who actually encourages use of drag radials on the evil Hellcat twins.
So what is really going on here? Could the strip results be better for Z06 using drag radials or is there a problem with using DR's on Z06 due to its inability to take advantage of the higher traction that results in very high torque demand at the wheels? Certainly, a high torque demand creates a very high stress on the drivetrain components like the rear differential, torque tube and clutch or even worse, the automatic transmission and all signs are there that the Z06 is already maxed out on street tires.
Considering that the latest generation of the Viper has a very well established issue with using drag radials and subsequent power reduction through its torque management system, this is exactly what the newest flagship may be experiencing here and chances are very good that the newest Z06 is not designed to use drag radial tires and thus, any speculations regarding possible improvements are as futile as 200 mph top speed wishes.
Yes, running the new Z06 on the street tires is a brilliant strategy to allow the potential buyers to speculate what could it be if but these dragstrip results on street tires may be as good as it will ever get with the Z06. Furthermore, IF INDEED the Z06 drivetrain cannot sustain the stress inflicted by DR's, then the results achieved by Hellcat twins and other cars capable of using DR's can be directly related to the results achieved by Z06 runs on street tires. Certainly, another reason to assure the newest Z06 is the quintessential laughing stock of the automotive world.
